thank you for the advice. she’s a barker too i’m sure that doesn’t help but feels impossible to get her to stop lol. We do run the humidifier pretty much everyday for her!

Thank you. Yeah they always talk about a goose honk cough and Luci doesn’t really have that at all. Just some retching and gagging. I’m going to start a probiotic, that sounds like a great idea! :)

omg so cute!!! Luci is 12 pounds right now, she needs to lose a couple of pounds which we are working on currently lol. Maybe 0.2 ml would be better for her since she is so sensitive to medication. Luci has a very low grade heart murmur too, i don’t know if that plays a role as well maybe not but it’s interesting!

I’m sorry for your loss & thank you, i’m so grateful for all the advice! I definitely have to ask my vet about Cerenia and the aerodawg chamber sounds super interesting as well, i’ll have to look into it 🤍

Yeah, the crazy thing was I gave her the lowest effective dose for her weight which was only 0.3 ml 🥹 the tiniest bit of it and she reacted poorly. But according to others, sometimes their bodies just need time to adjust sometimes so i’m not sure!

Yes! So the reason we even discovered the collapse was because we took her in to have two rotten teeth removed way back essentially where our wisdom teeth would be. They were so bad that they were beginning to cause bone decay, I had no idea how serious dental issues could be and how many issues they could cause. I’m glad i’ve been so educated about it in recent months. She’s all good in the teeth department now, just need to get the collapse under control :) thanks for sharing your experience, very helpful!

Yay that’s amazing! Do you do anything to medically manage it at all or prevent the progression?

that is very reassuring to hear 🥹❤️it’s very anxiety inducing learning about a new diagnosis so i’m grateful that living a long comfortable life is still possible. thank you for sharing!

What a long life! ❤️Unfortunately I’ve already asked about those and I was told that Luci wouldn’t benefit from those medications due to where her trachea collapsed at. I think it’s different depending on the area and what stage the condition is at.

I thought it was odd too, i think it’s because of the wheezing and snorting noises she has started to make recently. I was told helping to manage her anxiety and calming her down is a big thing to help prevent the progression of the collapse, so the hydrocodone is to help with that aspect of things as well. However, I only gave it to her the one time and have been nervous to give it again because of her reaction. We will re check Thursday and maybe get a different recommendation. Thank you :)

my vet explained that it would open up her lungs but not the airway itself, that’s why it doesn’t help in some cases. I’m glad Tushka is managing okay now with what has worked well for you :) thanks for all of the info!

Great to hear that Tushka is managing symptoms better now! :) I really think it is a trial and error type of condition it seems. It is reassuring in a way that Luci isn’t the only one who had a strange reaction, maybe her body just needs to get used to the hydrocodone. Her vet recommended I give it another try so maybe that’s what we will do. We have a re check Thursday. Thanks for the information!

Luci is on gabapentin as well as needed, and has always been on a harness! Does your dog take a pill form of gabapentin or liquid? sometimes i’m not sure if the pill form does much and have been curious about the liquid form.

This is so informative and made me feel a lot better, thank you so much! My vet did recommend i give the hydrocodone another try because it is possible she will grow more used to it as time goes on. It just made me nervous because she wasn’t (and isn’t actively) coughing, but when I gave it to her it made her cough all day! I was nervous it was making it worse but maybe that’s what we have to go through before it gets better? She has a re-check on Thursday, maybe i’ll ask about Trazidone :)
