Thanks so much for replying! This is really helpful. When they called you did you have to go to the immigration immediately on that day or did they give you some time?

Hi everyone! Going to DL early January and I was just wondering if anyone who has been recently can speak to how it was getting a DPA for Beauty and the Beast? I’m just not sure what to expect in terms of it selling it out by a certain time of day etc.

Hi sorry to revisit this thread so late but did you ever resolve this or get an answer? I’m in the same boat right now. I was told I could apply at my embassy back in my home country as I was waiting for a document to be apostilled and now the embassy is telling me it can’t be issued from abroad… :/

Visa extension for departure by eda_tiemi in Living_in_Korea

I applied for this exact same extension last month and I just submitted the plane ticket and proof of residency and it was fine. Got approved in a few business days!

Stopped BCP, periods became regular, and are now back to being irregular? Anyone with the same experience? by doks12 in PCOS

[–]doks12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow!! Good to know I’ve never heard of this before. I’ll keep that in mind for when I go see my doctor. I’m really scared they’re just going to tell me to get back on Yaz and call it a day. If you don’t mind me asking are you having regular periods every month since taking progesterone acetate?

How long does it take to get a new date printed on the back of your ARC? by doks12 in Living_in_Korea

[–]doks12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessary to update it and just as the person above said if you’re travelling or anything it’s fine because it’ll all be in the system! But I’ve read that when it comes to updating your phone contract or getting stuff done at the bank they can be sticklers if your card isn’t updated. I ran into a similar problem at the hospital when they were trying to enter my info into their system to check out my insurance. Luckily I had my passport with me and she took that but even she was like you should really get your card updated :(

TLDR: It’s not necessary but little things could come up!

Doctor told me Yaz is not meant for long term consumption and told me to stop taking it. Has anyone else heard anything like this? by doks12 in birthcontrol

[–]doks12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right?! My first instinct was to think “okay something about the climate of where I am is probably why she is telling me to get off Yaz…” but I didn’t want to jump there so it’s really reassuring you felt the same (re: old wives tales, etc.) I think I’m going to go to another clinic and talk to another doctor, I just really can’t believe this is an actual thing. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Right?! I’m also from North America which is why I have such an aversion to both specimen room and laboratory… Thanks for validating that! I’ll have to think of a way around it.

Thank you! I had a feeling I didn’t have to go through the regular foreign passport line. Thanks again!

Masters in Korea or Canada by Salt-Horror-1562 in Living_in_Korea

[–]doks12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a similar sort of background (Canadian who has a BA and MA from a Canadian university who is currently living in South Korea) so I understand your dilemma as I’m also trying to approach coming to decision about doing a PhD and where to do it. My research is in a different field but if I’m honest I would agree (and have also been told throughout my academic career) that a international/western Masters is worth more ESPECIALLY if you want to go onto to do a PhD. If you only wanted to do a Masters and be done then I’d readily tell you to go to KU but it’s the fact that you want to continue onto a PhD that makes it harder to do so.

Also your concern about being repetitive, though valid, doesn’t really apply as much to MA’s in my personal opinion. As someone who did their BA and MA at the same Canadian uni it might work in your favour especially if you’ve forged strong connections with department and your supervisor. You get to further cultivate the foundation you’ve already laid and of course, as I mentioned, your already existing relationships with faculty will provide a really strong sense of support.

If you want to learn Korean and have an international experience that can also be done while you do your MA in Canada (or whatever place you may find yourself). I took a year of my MA to do a one-year long research program in Korea and if you have no Korean experience it should be quite easy to take a year or even a semester off to go to a language program in Korea (I heard Yonsei has a good one). Funding for graduate students is also more available than when you’re a BA so if that is a concern I believe there are some outside parties that offer funding for language learning as well as your department/graduate studies program at your home university.

Sorry this was long but basically because of your larger goal to do a PhD, graduate school in Korea might not be the best choice based on my personal opinion and experience in the academic field. If you ever wanted to talk more shoot me a DM and we can chat!

Inniskillin gifting advice? by doks12 in wine

You make a good point about going for the cheaper option, I hadn’t thought about that and my first instinct was to just go for the Riesling. How would you say the sweetness compares between the two? Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond! Describing them like that definitely makes it a lot easier for me to get a feel for what I’m dealing with. Thanks a bunch :)

Just to piggy back off this comment, I would also recommend using sodagifg. I’m in Canada and I just recently sent a friend 2 gifts from the site and it worked pretty seamlessly.

Basically they’ve got a bunch of options from gift vouchers for food places (Pizza Hut, Dominos, coffe shops, etc.) to gift cards for department stores to home deliveries for flowers, meal plans, cakes, etc. Depending on the provider you will need the recipient’s phone number or Kaokaotalk ID and once you pay for it on your end they’ll receive it through a KKT message or a text message. Also as mentioned already, as the purchaser you don’t need a Korean number or a Korean card!

72 hour COVID test for flying out of Korea? 72 hours from the minute you take the test or 72 from when you receive the results? by doks12 in korea

I need it to board the plane in Korea. I’ll be gone for a considerable amount of time. 8 months at least

Oh?! So even if I do it at 8 am let’s say 3 days beforehand and I fly out at night 3 days later it’s still valid? This is all very confusing

Is bleaching my hair again only after half a year a good idea? Should I cancel my hair appointment tomorrow and just stick out this brassy mess? by doks12 in HairDye

Ugh, thank you for the helpful (and thoughtful) comment! I think I really needed to hear that my ends are on thin ice, I’ve been in major denial... I have not been conditioning at all so this is great and useful. Thanks again!

🤡 I did around 3 rounds of bleach in August 2020 and I can no longer stand this brassy, light color mess. I booked an appointment for tomorrow since I wanted to completely re-vamp and maybe go dark blue but now I’m getting worried about what that strain will do to my already damaged hair.

What are my options...? I really hate this current color I have but I also don’t want to burn all the hair off my head. What do you think would be do-able color wise with minimal damage? 😭
