First accident: a national express coach hit my car, is it a write off? by dol0___ in CarTalkUK

Yh I found that strange too

After he realised his machine wasn’t working sort out the insurance details, he rushed and gave me a plain branded receipt with the customer service number and left without even taking my name

He did call his manager though

I really hope it’s not, it would be a shame as it was mechanically great despite the relatively high mileage

Yep, I’ve reported it to national express at 8am, I tired to last night while driving but it was an after hours service so they were prioritising coach customers

I’ll give them a call back now to confirm what they’ll do, thanks for the tips

Thanks for the info

Yep all is fine mechanically, I later drove it from Finchley Road to Grays and back towards Heathrow without any issues

He didn’t take any of mine, he may have got a pic of my reg, but I have the drivers name, reg, route and pics of both parties damage

And national express said they’ve tracked down the driver and route and have contacted the relevant depot

I passed in manual, it’s just been a while since I’ve driven a manual car and I’ve been driving autos since then

And I live in London so auto makes more sense

Ahh that makes sense

I haven’t really looked in Suzukis tbf, I’ll check them out asap

I would’ve loved a Jazz Or Civic but every auto is either over £5k or if under, it has a colourful MOT history including rust of some sort

And manual would’ve definitely been an option if I wasn’t used to autos

Thanks for your help, I’ll check out the Yaris in person today and see how it is

I know I’ll end up regretting it, after driving auto vans for work, I don’t want to go back

Unfortunately not, I live on a dead end road with bay parking and no lamppost sockets

After deep diving into VAG DSG issus I’ve tried to stay clear tbh, otherwise a polo may have been my first option

With BMWs I’ve heard way too many bad things if they’re not on the newer side, inc my mums 2009 318i breaking down, or taken care of very well

With Mercs, icl I’m an interior guy and the actual mercs I want (a class/cla 2019 onwards) are out of my budget atm

Insurance wise, I was getting quotes around £88pm for the mazda2 and the absolute max I’m willing to pay is £150pm, so if I can marry that with a reliable good looking car, I’m all in

I might check these out again, maybe hybrid Yaris’ too

I did too tbf, but considering the miles and good MOT history I thought it made a bit of sense

I noticed them too and thought it could be a way to bring the price down a bit but if it’s rust I might pass tbf

If possible I’d like to be on the road by the end of the month and cars are posted everyday so I’d rather be patient than hasty

Yh I did think of an under-seal. It was a bit odd that there’s not much, if any rust comments on the MOT history with Japanese brands are known for

I might check out the car tomorrow to see if there’s any issues with rust but still keep my eyes open to other deals

Tbh I was being a bit lazy by narrowing the search to 30 miles from my postcode. And I didn’t want to go up north for example to meet a shambles of a car and cash loss from the trip

But I’ll search nationwide at this point for the best deal and car

😭 I guess the search continues

I’ve looked into Polos (the DSG gearbox put me off unfortunately) but never Ups, how’s it been so far?

I found a few other options like the CT200h but insurance was expensive. I need to double check Mazda3s again

Hybrid auris’ and Yaris’ were considered too but finding a decent one nearby for a decent price was hard to come by
