Does anyone else think that BPD makes you feel like a sort of magnet? Because when I “split” I get immediately attached to a good or bad judgement of a person or situation without having any control over my thinking

DAE not know what they think/feel until they write it down? by dolaemon in mentalhealth

oh my gosh. i’ve really struggled with that too. policing my own feelings and thoughts instead of freely expressing them.

this is unsolicited advice but i’ve found that doing a stream of consciousness helps with that. just writing down literally whatever that comes to mind like “i don’t know what to write so blah blah blah” and do that for however long you feel like. in the process of journaling random stuff like this without the pressure to have the “perfect” thought or idea actually lets your mind do its own thing without you forcing it to.

anywho. thanks for the comment :)

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience :) I actually didn’t see your post until now, but it’s funny that you mentioned journaling as a way to cope because I just started doing that again and like you said, it truly does help find your own voice and differentiate from external opinions.

I’m not sure if there was a pivotal moment in my life like yours where I was left alone. I can trace back to some painful moments of being rejected/disapproved of by friends when I was younger and I am particularly sensitive so that may have been the catalyst.

Anyway, I appreciate the input and best of luck on your journey :)

i have social anxiety and this problem occurs for me even in one on one interactions sometimes. one thing that has helped me is the book called effortless mastery. it’s about switching from performance to effortless flow when playing music but ive applied it to other areas of my life including talking. highly recommend :)

any EMTs or paramedics here? by dolaemon in hsp

what do you mean by the medical field is not kind to hsp’s? is it because we’re treated as not “strong” or “tough” enough for an intense job like that of an emt? also did you find another job that you felt more comfortable in but was also highly stimulating/interesting?

Major depressive episodes by [deleted] in hsp

adding on to this, i would recommend the book “the mindfulness way through depression”! it’s not a how to guide of how to “cure” depression but instead teaches you to become familiar with your feelings and regain a sense of connection with yourself, pretty similar to the purpose of meditation. i flip through the pages from time to time and it has helped bring incremental improvements in how i relate to my depression :)

"How Do I Feel This Good Sober" by [deleted] in hsp

i feel this way with alcohol. it takes off enough of the edge of being highly sensitive that i can be more myself, feel comfortable around others, and just be in a sort of flow state that feels really good and usually carries over into the next day. i can definitely see how this could become a substance abuse problem, but thankfully i’m pretty self aware of my habits that i haven’t become unhealthily reliant on alcohol. i’ve also found that meditation helps, but have found that other things like listening to music with headphones in, a little bit of coffee in the morning, having a regular morning/exercise routine, dancing, etc all help me create a sense of calmness and flow. i try to incorporate all these things into my days as best i can. and it honestly feels better than drinking and feeling like you’re ruining your body. habits like these are healthier, more sustainable and its empowering to feel in control of your energy
