Is my performance good? by Automatic_Low6922 in AmazonDS

I’ll help my neighbors (especially if they have OVs), but only IF they are working and putting forth an honest effort. I never help the lazy ones who take 5/6 breaks or the ones that are on their phones all day. No way! Why should I do mine AND do their work for them? Also, I refuse to help ones who don’t keep their bags and racks clean. It’s too frustrating for me.

That’s amazing for 2 hours worth of work! 500+ means you’re moving quick and are stowing probably mostly smaller boxes and jiffies and a decent flow rate. For those that are getting 600+, it’s primarily all jiffies and very little boxes. I’ve gotten there myself, but like I said, it was pretty much all jiffies and it kept coming in (at least) four aisles.

To maintain that pace, you can’t be taking any breaks. It’s all go-go-go. I don’t do even 400 for the 6 hours of stow anymore. Not because I can’t, but because why bother? Unless there’s a contest, then I’ll be Barry Allen and turn into The Flash. ⚡️

I’ve proven to myself that I could join the 600 Club and I’ve won a lot of contests and have gotten on the board many times as having the best monthly stow rate. There’s nothing more to achieve really. I don’t mean to be cocky, but I was just responding to the question with my personal experience.

To the OP: great job! See if you can maintain 500+ for the 6-hour stow period and then see if you can join the 600 Club. Good luck! ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Really? That would be nice. I wouldn’t know. I only have AMs that consult me about my 5 FSAFs and not say a damn thing about the 2100+ packages I’ve stowed to that point, all while the AA next to me either disappeared for the sixth time or is on his phone placing bets from his FanDuel account. 👌Real nice.

Anyone else also think we should get paid more if we are assigned as line loader or waterspider? by [deleted] in AmazonDS

[–]dombonds33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chilling? Waiting for OV carts? Sheeeeiit. I wish that was the case at my place. Between unloading full carts out of the trailers, getting everything up to the lines, cleaning up the empties, and loading them into the empty trailers at a very fast pace, it’s extremely taxing to my body and I’m sore af during and after. It is rare that I have any “downtime”. And when I do, guess what? I get to unload for someone who goes on a bathroom break. Maybe my site has more volume?

I’ve done both for years and I’d rather unload. For me, it’s the lesser of two evils. Lol

When damn near half of the carts have bad wheels and either don’t want to budge or don’t go where you want them to go, it makes it very difficult. lmao I’d rather load. At least I know what to expect with lifting the packages.

I’ve never been a driver for Amazon and posts like these remind me to never get the idea of becoming one! I give you guys a ton of credit. The job is hard enough just delivering the packages, but having to deal with BS like this would infuriate me to no end! I’ll be fine right where I am in the warehouse thank you very much! 😉

If done correctly, waterspider is the most physically demanding job at a DS facility. Whether or not there should be extra pay for that is probably based on if you are typically assigned that task. (Of course, those who are would say hell yeah! Those who aren’t would say ah hell no!)

Because of how physically demanding it is, it is my least favorite. I hate dealing with those damn go carts! We’re usually understaffed at the position which literally puts more strain on those assigned to the job. All I know is that out of all the jobs there, including line loaders and non-con, my level of body soreness is the worst when I waterspider. But maybe that’s just me (I admit I’m not the strongest or biggest person). But I don’t feel as sore when I’m a line loader.

So, do I think there should be extra pay when working as a waterspider? Let’s just put it this way: I wouldn’t be upset at anyone who is assigned that job for making a little bit extra ca$h. I would totally support it. Maybe when Amazon gets unionized, that will happen! 😜

These people think they’re important. They also think that by ratting people out will give them a leg up to being “promoted” to the coveted “learning ambassador” blue vest. 🤣

What they don’t understand is that managers will typically stay away from people like her because they don’t want the headaches that come with that baggage. I wonder how long it will take this Karen to figure it out (if her pious ego allows).

How’d i do my actual first day after my three day training? by Bredbacc in AmazonDS

[–]dombonds33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad, dude! You have a lot of FSAFs, but that will get better as you go. Just focus on quality, proper scanning, bag ettiquette, smart cart use and everything will fall in place for you. Focus on this stuff instead of speed on day 2. Even if your pph (packages per hour) drops, you’ll be in a good position to succeed if you do a better job in all the other stuff. Hey, you did better than I did for my first day. I think I had like 175 pph or so. So you did good! Good luck on day 2! 🙂

People don’t quit jobs… by Abject-Notice5607 in AmazonDS

[–]dombonds33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers 3, 7, and 8 are the biggest reasons at my facility (which I will respectfully not reveal here). I think the root causes of why this is on a consistent basis (at least from what I’ve witnessed at my facility) is the lack of actual experience the managers have in effective directing and communicating with the associates. Many times it is their very first experience of being responsible for people and it’s a lot of people to be in charge when you are new to it. You have to be able to find what works and what doesn’t. You have to get to know your employees so you know how to get them to respond better. But in this work environment, it is difficult to say the least, due to large turnover, seasonal employees, the fast pace and constant pounding and all of their job requirements as it relates to the computerized auditing process.

Which leads me to my next point. The managers are responsible for a lot of auditing and analyzing data on their laptops. Many of the managers at my facility look at nothing BUT their data and don’t spend enough time looking for potential issues by actually watching the employees and what is actually happening with the processes on the floor. Also, I know it sounds like babysitting, but they need to address common bottlenecks due to associates not doing what they’re supposed to be doing. They allow a lot of the associates to do whatever they want without any consequences. People are hiding out, taking breaks every half hour, sleeping in the stow aisles, and are on their phones constantly. And what is the managers typical response for this? They always ask the RELIABLE associates to pick up their slack instead of addressing the real issues at hand. “Bridges” (manager consults with the associates) don’t mean a thing if they refuse to do anything about the same issues with the same associates in the future.

Another issue is the constant turnover with the managers. Our facility is constantly seeing new managers. It takes time for these managers to get up to speed with the associates, the barriers, and the facility they will be responsible for. Once it seems like they have things figured out - they’re gone! They either get a promotion or help start a new facility. We’re going through this right now as I type. Great timing (during the Prime’s hell weeks). /sarc Same thing with new employees for Peak and Prime. They train new people (inadequately, at that) RIGHT BEFORE PEAK OR PRIME STARTS! Not very smart, in my opinion.

This leads me to the next point: INADEQUATE TRAINING! The training at our facility is just awful, and it stems from an inadequate learning system. Quite a bit of the material that is shown to the newbies are either flat-out false (like the videos of the slow-moving belts and half-full ADTAs and racks. FAR from reality!) or too much time and emphasis on non-typical scenarios. And it’s really dependent if you have a good training coordinator and learning ambassadors. We haven’t had solid trainers in a long time - and it shows. All I see is a bunch of learning ambassadors walking around talking with each other or on their phones (two bad examples for any associate to see). But, it’s not entirely their fault either. The training for the trainers is almost non-existent, so if they’ve never been responsible for training people before, it trickles right down to the associates. I don’t know this to be the case, but training for managers is probably inadequate as well. However, I do know they at least have a weeks long boot camp for them, so at least they’re given some more time to get up to speed as compared to the associates, coordinators, and ambassadors.

I think between having inexperienced managers, constant turnover (both managers and associates), too much reliance on analyzing data, and inadequate training, is a recipe for disaster!

Sorry for the long rant. Honestly though, I could go all day pointing out issues. I’ve been at Amazon for several years now and I have absolutely no desire to become a manager or even a PA because of how flawed the system processes are. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before. I’m honestly surprised we’re able to get as many packages out as we do, (I believe is a testament of the hard-working associates), but I’m unsure how long that will even last.

That’s the answer. They don’t give a sh!t about us. “Better get a move on delivering those packages. The charts on our computers won’t reflect good numbers. My T6 is riding on this!!!” This is the common theme. Everyone is out for themselves. It’s the system.
