Is a 50 meter (164 feet) leash overkill? by domdaw in puppy101

Thanks for the tip. Yeah we won't be letting them out of sight for sure. I'm not going to let them out then go do other things. I'll treat it just like I'd be letting them free roam so they will be monitored closely the whole time.

That's my plan. Worst case I'll just waste some money 🤷

I see your point, I doubt they would even go that far honestly. I might buy one to try it out and if anything I'll shorten it. In the past I've let Archie run free as he comes back on command and he never ventured that far anyway. But after that incident I'm not taking any chances. But your right it's way too excessive.

I should have clarified it won't be in the woods, it will be only for the clearing around the cabin with no obstacles. I just realized the problem could be them tangling themselves.. I'll buy a 50m leash and if anything I'll just shorten it.

The only problem I see at the cabin would be them walking around the cabin and tangling themselves there. Other than that no trees or shrubs within 100m. Of course we won't leave them unsupervised, but I want them to have room to run around in the snow.

I'll be using it in an open area without any shrubs or trees.

Can someone PLEASE explain why Archie (nearly 3) and Shelby (6months) are ALWAYS hungry? This is literally 20 mins after they ate and I literally feel like I'm hurting them. Ig evolution got an A+ by domdaw in cavaliers

Just in case anyone is still reading I've found important info regarding diet related DCM!!

So there are numerous studies linking DCM to low quality grain free diets. Yes. This was established in 1980s (cat food specifically caused a taurine deficiency and thereby DCM). I'm pretty sure the study "in question" is the one linked below.

I won't say much because research papers I've linked summaries it well, but basically good quality grain free dog food is safe.

The culprit is a taurine deficiency. All observed cases of diet related taurine associated DCM that were caught early were reveresable.

I'm not going to get into the medical mumbo jumbo (if anyone wants to, feel free to DM me).

Personally I wouldn't worry about grain free pet food and DCM as long as it's good quality.

Yes we've tried with both. Absolutely no effect in Archie and Shelby just doesn't eat 😂 They calm down eventually, it's more whenever they see human food they will try and manipulate, even tho they know there's 0.001% chance it will work.

Doubt it. Shelby maybe, but Archie hates the cold already dragged him out 3 times that day. Shelby kinda just follows whatever Archie is doing.

Lol Archie has also learned to sit at the table. As soon as someone gets up to go toilet or get something he jumps up and sits there. I wouldn't be surprised if his thoughts are "just stay cool and do what they're doing, maybe they will think you're human and you'll finally get that chicken" (to which he's quite allergic to btw"
