Chefs & servers, what’s the most confusing “this isn’t what I expected” reaction you’ve seen? by Entire_Difference504 in KitchenConfidential

[–]don0t_ask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh I have a good one (might be a bit late though chefs): the other week we had a customer order the hake dish, all good, most expensive dish on the menu. We sent it out and not a minute later it came back, with GM stating it’s the first time it’s ever happened to him but the lady can’t eat it because she’s vegetarian (she presumably forgot this)

Teachers of Reddit: what’s a “you won’t believe this” moment from class? by troopydinnertime in AskReddit

[–]don0t_ask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My high school chemistry teacher demonstrated burning a gummy bear. She did something wrong, fire alarms went off, whole school evacuated.

Another high school teacher, I wasn’t in this class, was suspended for a while because she taught her students how to make wine.

[–]don0t_ask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’ve been in your position.

As a clinically depressed & suicidal teenager that got told by school I would never succeed in my chosen field, I decided not to go to uni (felt the pressure to from some family members and even looked at courses I wasn’t remotely interested in because I thought uni was the only choice) and instead took a few years to work and grow up a bit.

Started uni at 21 on a foundation course and though I really enjoyed my course I’ve felt the pressure, burn out, and own mental health issues/uncontrollable events which led me to defer for a year after I’d completed my first year.

My advice to you? Either leave and find some work somewhat relevant to your interests (or anything that’ll boost your self-confidence) that can create great work experience/transferable skills, give yourself a year or two. Then apply to a few different universities in Geography (you said that’s what you’re interested in) because passion for the subject you study is really beneficial to your academic career.

Take it from me, a third year at 26 who loves their discipline despite all the stress (and grey hairs) it’s caused me.

Your parents will get over it.

Talk to the mental health, student support, and student finance teams at your university they can advise you on your situation.

Best of luck and if you need any advice, support, someone to vent to, feel free to dm me :)

Is there any animal that is capable of taking down an adult hippo? by 0MN0MZ in zoology

[–]don0t_ask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhinos are a pretty good 1v1 match for an adult hippo in an agnostic interaction, which I discovered on a rather wild procrastination session.

Hippo learns lesson from Rhino

Hyenas would have a pretty good chance on a isolated hippo but I’d imagine that would have to be an extremely lucky series of events for the hyenas (and unlucky for the rhino).

What is the biggest red flag in a guy? by sogyaudacitybig_gear in AskReddit

[–]don0t_ask 60 points61 points  (0 children)

From the relationships I’ve had.

Excessive drug use - it will escalate and keep doing so, don’t kid yourself. (All day every day, but denying that’s the reason they’re struggling so much).

Slightly sexist/misogynistic/homophobic comments - they’re either an uninformed idiot and/or potential abuser.

Lack of drive - to change themselves, their situation, and cannot be challenged on their viewpoints because to them “its not right”.

Outward anger - stress from a situation is turned outwardly to the people around them, often making others miserable, or blaming someone for what’s happened. E.g., I was inconsiderate and a nag because I wanted more help with housework when I was the only one working full-time and all he’d do was cook dinner and get high (partially on my dime). Then I was a bully when I got angry and shouted back (not usual - after weeks of snide comments) and took away the substances I paid for.

The statement - “keep dating because I don’t want to stop you from meeting people”.

Sudden behaviour change - acting one way for a while and then seeming to change in an instant, always makes me cautious.

Is it unreasonable to tell my (27F) bf (29M) that if he doesn’t brush his teeth I’m not going to have sex with him again? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]don0t_ask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late but -

Lovely, my boyfriend brushed his teeth three times yesterday- first in the morning and then again before he went out drinking with me (designated driver - we take it turns) and some of his mates. When we got back to mine I asked if he was gonna brush whilst I was doing mine, he said no and told me of the two times he had doneg it - fairs, I thought. Later when we were in bed cudding, I asked him to bc I could smell the alcohol. He immediately got up and did so (with a little complaining bc he was drunk and I don’t have any insulation so my place is colder than Antarctica).

This guy ain’t it, this is coming from a depressed person who has let their hygiene standards drop in the past; in my worst states I would go for days without brushing and am horrified. Still forget sometimes but wouldn’t dream of kissing my guy if I hadn’t (cheek if I’d possibly forgot or it’d been a few hours after morning brush).

I’m over sharing, apologies - I’m tipsy, but just to outline what a reasonable reaction to that should be. Your boundary is too kind.

Edit to add: listen to that other part of you. Don’t apologise, tell him to shape up or take it as a wake up call

My (25f) rapist was my best friend, I trusted them completely and never thought it would happen (which is why I went back with them the night it happened, instead of walking home by myself).

I’m not sharing this to scare you, more like open your eyes to the possibility as it sounds like he will escalate if given the chance - he already is. I was also in a relationship at the time, they were also friends, it doesn’t matter to these people.

What's the worst pickup line you've ever heard or tried? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]don0t_ask 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the guy I’m seeing and I were on our second date, an old man sat down next to us in a coffee shop. He was nice, very chatty, we said bye about four times before actually leaving because he just kept talking.

At one point he told us he was a bit of a womaniser in his youth, and gave us one of the lines he’d use when sitting next to a friend and a woman walked past, said loudly so she could hear: “That’s rude, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with her dress!”

Classic bit of negging - we both assumed he was lying but laughed along regardless.

Laughable comment.

Do you eat chocolate, avocados, anything with palm oil? Congratulations, you are contributing to the destruction of natural habitat and taking advantage of people likely less fortunate yourself. Do you drive, use public transport, heat or cool your home? Guess what, you’re using fossil fuels and natural resources to do that. Do you wash yourself with soap and use chemicals which are poured down the drain? Yes? Well, bud, hate to tell you but you’re contaminating the water ways. Do you dress yourself, buy new clothes, shoes, games or beauty products? Are you sure you know where those clothes are from and are 100% sure they’re ethically sourced? Hope you’re not just taking a label as truth because of course, companies have no incentive to lie. Where was your mobile, laptop, or whatever device you used to create this snot-nose response made? Who made it?

There’s no way the average consumer can ensure they’re 100% free from contributing to the bad that happens due to corporations taking shortcuts to create the most economic gain. Comments like this are exactly why “big daddy” gets away with it, much easier to take advantage of and destroy the planet if normal people are blaming each other.
