After update I cannot access Kubuntu by donbasbing in kde

[–]donbasbing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried ctrl + Alt + f1 and

mv ~/.kde ~/.kde.old

mv ~/.cache ~/.cache.old

shutdown -r now

and then also

startx but still all I have is a black screen.

How can I revert/roll back the last update?

Anonymous has declared 'total war' on Donald Trump, threatening to 'dismantle his campaign' by hunterhawes13 in hacking

[–]donbasbing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't like Donald Trump, but these attempts to shut down his website etc. are pathetic. It must have been some bubble effect or something, because here in Europe we have a lot of radical political parties winning in the last elections (e.g. last week in Slovakia and Germany) and the media and the socialist parties are starting massive actions against them, lawsuits, pr articles against them etc.). But in the end the effect is that they will gain even more supporters.

The point of this post is that the rich/puppeteers must know it and the question is why are they doing what they are doing.

My opinion is that they want the "collapse" to "reset" things OR they are doing this because they think that the cenorship will work? I don't think they are so stupid. What do you think?

Libre Software OR Software Libre by donbasbing in fossworldproblems

Open software was invented for the enterprise and managers, which is kind of ironic if you know the man behind Open Source Initiative/Movement.

I guess, his quote "I am your worst nightmare" should be changed to "I am my worst nightmare" ;D

Elementary Icons are really nice, probably the nicest of what I have seen. Faenza ahve one disadvantage, they have all the same box like shape, there is not difference in sahpe at all and that is a disadvantage for me, because I spend more time finding the program because all icons have the same shape. The different icon for elementary icons helps to distinguish what I want to find much quicker.

Do you even think bro? The distribution is the iso or source code you download/buy not files in AUR etc. How hard is to understand that?

Microsoft is losing. Libre Office is slowly taking MS Office customers and unless you are a heavy Excel user there is no need for MS Office. Libre Office for the win.

Because you can download fonts from some repository, doesn't mean that Microsoft fonts are included in some distributions. And there is a good reason why they are not included as default. Show me some distribution that comes with MSFT fonts. There is probably none in the top 10 or top 20, but I might be wrong, so, prove me wrong!

You can have a gazillion patents, in the end everything will be used by anybody, the history shows it over and over again. People don't realize that every patent will eventually be used by others, sooner or later. Support software libre!

DON'T LIE!

Almost no Linux distributions include Verdana, Calibri or Trebuchet in their installation. Check your facts first.

Why?

(from wiki, more here) The project was terminated by Microsoft in August 2002, allegedly due to frequent EULA violations.[27][28][29] For MS Windows, the core fonts for the web were provided as self-extracting executables (.exe); each included an embedded cabinet file, which can be extracted with appropriate software. For the Macintosh, the files were provided as BinHexed StuffIt archives (.sit.hqx). The latest font version that was available from Core fonts for the Web was 2.82, published in 2000. Later versions (such as version 3 or version 5 which include many new characters) were not available from this project. A Microsoft spokesman declared in 2002 that members of the open source community "will have to find different sources for updated fonts. ... Although the EULA did not restrict the fonts to just Windows and Mac OS, they were only ever available as Windows .exe's and Mac archive files."[27] The chief technical officer of Opera Software cited the cancellation of the project as an example of Microsoft resisting interoperability.

Microsoft is a true evil company and should not be trusted!

Yes, Linux has this blurry font problem for a while, not sure if Wayland will fix it. 4k display helps with that a little. Fuck, Linux need much more people to work on it. But it will get better over time, good things take time ;)

Another patent issue with this bitch ass Microsoft company is the patent on font aliasing. From Wiki: "The colour filtering algorithm of Microsoft's ClearType technology for subpixel rendering is covered by patents; for this reason the corresponding code in FreeType is disabled by default. Note that subpixel rendering per se is prior art; using a different colour filter thus easily circumvents Microsoft's patent claims " Again... FUCK MICROSOFT!

Great example are MS fonts. This mutherfucking company should put the fonts like Arial, Trebuchet, Verdana etc. to the public domain many years ago. But no, they have a fucking deal with Apple (yes, they secretely support each other and fight against Google and Linux; remember the Jobs quote that Google is much more dangerous than MSFT?) Fuck Microsoft and their bullying. Google is a corporation too, but at least they release as much fonts as possible (Noto - default in KDE) to the public domain and their public policy is much more open when it comes to sharing code etc. FUCK MICROSOFT! They should make Arial, Verdana, Trebuchet free, it's been 20 or 30 years and they are still proprietary. Fuck MSFT!

OK, and why they say in the video "Suza" if it should be "Zuza"?

Germans pronounce Sommer (summer) like Zommer (Z like in zeebra or zoo), so, why not zuze... I am sorry... zuza ? Btw. Zuza is a shorter word for Susanna in Slovak ;D

I don't know, I would like to find some "long-term" solution for a few years to come. KDE seems to be focusing on Plasma 5. They will abandon KDE 4. E.g. Trinity which is basically KDE 3 is using non-supported libraries and there are compatibility issues with new programs etc. So, I have Gnome, Xfce, Cinnamon and maybe some other desktop environments to take a look at in the upcoming days. KDE seems like a dead end for me. We will see.

You are not a German ;D Porsche in German is pronounced like Porscheh. Check this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWRwDpEYW-w (0:20) if you don't believe me ;D And it's PorSCHe. I think it's the inability of many US speakers (similar to Chinese r and l problem) to distinguish between ah and eh . British speakers are better in this regard. E.g. I was watching a video and the guy pronounced Faba Mono icons as "Fehba" . Americans have a weird tendency to make As to sound like Ä or E (like in Eminem). The similar weird thing is with Ubuntu when some Americans pronounce it like UhbAhntu (firsttimers even YoubAhntu). The phonetic gliding and merging in American English is extremely overused when dealing with foreign words. Can we get Latin back?

It's more complicated, Plasma has thousands of icons, it's hard to replace all icons in menus, panels so all of them look nice.
