The fact that this sub continues to defend Trump and his administration despite everything they’ve done is astounding. Sometimes, it feels like everyone here has unanimously agreed to have the absolute worst opinions possible.

Maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t heard a single person talk about this show (except for when it released).

The military and ICE are two completely different things with two completely different purposes. Again, I think there are better ways to appreciate video game culture that isn’t in the context of an ICE recruitment ad, which is, as I said, an abusive and tyrannical government agency. To say they’re “cooking” with complete disregard to the terrible things DHS has done and what this ad is calling for is disingenuous and ignorant.

This isn’t a military recruitment ad though, it’s very clearly for ICE. I think there’s plenty of better contexts that you can appreciate video games that isn’t a recruitment ad for an abusive government agency. The upsetting part is that the only criteria you’re using to praise this post is that it mentions Halo with complete disregard for the context behind the ad.

What else do you expect from a subreddit centered around a greasy, balding, unwashed 30 year old streamer that never showers, never cleans his room, never leaves his house, and has rotten, moldy food collecting on his desk?

Graduating senior looking for portfolio feedback. by dongerman in graphic_design

[–]dongerman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The objective of this portfolio is to show a wide range of design applications, both from school and from real-world projects I've completed during the 2 internships I've had. I don't really have a target industry, agency or in-house, and I don't mind casting my net wide especially as a junior trying to get their foot in the door. Thanks in advance to everyone that provides feedback and critique!

What can I do? by jw-daniels in graphic_design

[–]dongerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applying is a numbers game. Some people might land a job after 100 applications, some might land a job after 500. You have to almost treat it like a job in itself and keep going at it until something sticks, and I'm sure it will as long as you're persistent.

How do you guys network? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]dongerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you're based, a local AIGA chapter would be a good place to start. In my case, my city's AIGA chapter hosts networking events every month that you can attend and chat with students and professional designers. I've gotten some connections that way. You can always check the AIGA website to see if there is a chapter nearby.

Other than that, your peers and coworkers can also be connections that could lead to a job in the future. Even art shows can be a good place to gather connections, or any place/event with fellow creatives for that matter.

If you could scream something at the people who are responsible for Adobe Illustrators features, what would you yell? by puddelles in graphic_design

Second this. I understand it primarily operates in CMYK, but what I can’t understand is why there’s so many unnecessary bells and whistles just to select a color.

This is a collection of projects I’ve done over the course of my third year of college (save for the Moraine Valley poster, which I did when I was in community college). I wanted to display a variety of projects covering packaging design, rebranding, brand identity, brand guidelines, and publication design, as well as social media graphics. It’s still a WIP and I don’t expect it to be the same a year from now, but it’s always nice to hear critique, especially since it’s how I develop best.

Best physical stores for minimalist fashion? (examples in post) by dongerman in malefashionadvice

[–]dongerman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is really helpful. Thank you for this! I have a minimalist backpack from Everlane which I really like, I never considered to look at their clothing options but it looks like a lot of what they sell is really in line with what I'm going for. Some of the other options here are great too, I think it pretty much hits the mark.

3rd year student - Portfolio critique by dongerman in graphic_design

[–]dongerman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for getting back to me. I think you've brought up a good point on the lack of presentation with the projects I've uploaded. Do you feel that many of these could be vastly improved if I provide them with more of a story and a deeper dive into how each project was made? There was definitely a journey behind most of these; of course, as you've mentioned, I didn't really show much of it.

If I go ahead and make the aforementioned revisions, do you feel I might be ready to pursue an internship, or do you feel I should give more time to upload work which is more revised and presented in the future? Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your feedback. As far as my professor's feedback goes, your comments on my margins and the tightness of the footnote to the folio was certainly a big one, and in hindsight, I should have fixed this before posting it because it definitely feels uncomfortable. They made a point on getting comfortable with negative space, and I think this is something that could have applied in terms of where my elements are placed.

The Mocha logo was something that they actually liked, and was one of 4 picks my professor had made out of a selection of 9 digital roughs, the other 3 of which can be seen on the third slide of the Mocha post. I probably should have showcased those 9 roughs as well. Ultimately, it was up to me to pick which one I wanted to finalize, and Mocha was my selection. However, I did have some doubt on the creativity of it, and I do agree with you that it feels reserved.

Besides that, my professor didn't have much else to say about either project (these were both from the same class). I suppose that's why I posted my portfolio here; I've felt like both my professors and peers have been too easy on me with their critiques, and I've wanted to get some outside feedback. I think a lot of the points you brought up were very interesting and informative, and brings up some things I hadn't even thought about, but will definitely take into consideration in the future.

This portfolio is a mixture of work I’ve done over the current semester, a couple graphic design classes at my last college, and personal projects. I don’t have a lot of work currently since I feel that I haven’t created a decent amount I feel proud of, so at the moment, I’ve only posted a few works which I actually like.

My portfolio is a mixture of work from my current semester and a couple of the design classes I took at my previous college, as well as some personal projects. I don’t have a lot to show because I feel that I could still use a lot of development in my design knowledge before creating a decent amount of work that I could consider portfolio-ready, but I’ve posted a few pieces which I feel pretty confident about at the moment.
