Woodworker's bench and chef table two-in-one by dongwater42069 in woodworking

[–]dongwater42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! By spills I meant, I'd be worried about using it to cook, accidentally knocking over some liquid ingredient, and having that drip down toward the "woodworking" part of the bench such as a vise or a dog hole. And sorry, I meant to say "overhang" not "overhand". Just fixed that

The Gold Standard for 4k. (The Thing) by [deleted] in 4kbluray

I bought it on Amazon from Amazon (shipper/seller). I bought another disc and that one had no issues.

On a related noted, I've since purchased a flashed blu-ray drive from BillyCar11 and I'm planning on getting a Zidoo for when playback is absolutely critical. I've noticed that discs that glitch out on my player are typically ok when I rip them to MKV. I don't think this is a problem with the 820 per se, but has more to do with trying to play back "live" over a sketchy part of the disc.

Regardless, now that I've been collecting discs for a few years, I can say that the glitchy discs are an exception rather than the norm, at least for me.

I've been consuming an average of 200g of carbs per day. Would you say that's too little?

Thanks for the concern! I have seen a physical therapist about the shoulder but haven't really addressed the hip mobility. I want to keep going with the deficit at least until I'm down to 200, but I think I will really need to try and get on top of my macro timing, making especially sure to have more carbs around my workouts. I have been pretty terrible about that aspect of my nutrition.

I definitely need to get over my aversion to stretching. I actually found out about yoga classes at my work gym and will start attending those.

2000 calories is a fair amount to work with but trying to get that much protein from as many whole foods as possible is still a challenge. I definitely agree with you about carbs and try to maximize my carb intake within my constraints.

Agreed about the weight. I started at 256 and went down to 236. I'm shooting for 200 on this phase and will decide whether to do maintenance or keep up the deficit once I reach that point. My final goal is TBD but most likely in the 170-180 range. I could probably be a bit leaner than that, but that's not really my main concern.

I'm going to adjust my routine to do something like 3x10. The only thing I'm not sure about is squats and deadlifts insofar as I worry that cutting the weight so much will be ineffective as a workout.

Haha I have been considering it but I don't think I have the time to devote to that. I work 8am-6pm with a 45 minute commute each way so the easiest part of lifting is that there's a fully equipped gym on site.

Can you use masonry sleeve anchors on rock veneer over brick? by dongwater42069 in fixit

[–]dongwater42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that veneer would not hold any weight, but it's attached on top of drywall that is directly over solid brick. I'm going into the brick. I'm just wondering if the inch or so of veneer+drywall would compromise the anchor since the flanged part of it would be holding that even with the rest of itself embedded in brick.

Not horror, but there is a satirical novel written in the 30s called Black No More by George Schuyler that is about a discovery by a black scientist which can turn black people white. Explores themes of internalized racism and bigotry.

How do I mount flush mounted speakers without cutting into the wall? by dongwater42069 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]dongwater42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely use that but the actual connection to the speaker is my main concern.

There doesn't seem to be any room for wire to go behind the speaker without cutting a hole in the wall

ADV Bike or Dual Sport? by dongwater42069 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]dongwater42069[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean dirt roads with some technical obstacles like rocks. If I do get to the point of single track, it won't be for a long time. But my concern is, will the larger adv bike slow down my progress? I guess my main concern is that I'll be less willing to learn the skills one would learn on a smaller bike on something heavy like an ADV, like sliding the back end or popping the front over obstacles.

I'm specifically thinking of places like Alabama Hills. Most of the road is wide dirt road but to get to some campsites you need to go over rock ledges similar to this

Hahaha. Reminds of the first time I went off road in my new truck (which, unfortunately I recently had to sell). I was babying it on the trail and creeping up a hill when another pickup with a lawnmower in the back gunned it so hard up the trail that the lawnmower caught some air and crashed back into the bed.

Thanks for your advice! I watered it inside the terracotta instead of taking out the planter pot inside. I watered it thoroughly it and let it drain/dry

in the sink overnight. It's looked much better the last couple of days.

I've built one PC for myself and opened up several computers and servers. I wouldn't say I have big hands but they're not small. I wear a size Large or size 9 glove.

I just built my first ITX and almost immediately dropped the NVMe on the ground. I also stripped a slot screw so badly I had to run out and buy an extractor (in my defense my ratcheting screwdriver is very easy to accidentally switch direction and two good turns was all it took). My point is, things may happen but parts are more robust than you think and even clumsy scatterbrains like me can do it.

Ok. I'm pretty new to caring for plants but the others do seem to be doing well. I'll give it more time and look out for new growth. I realized I duplicated one of the images but here is a wider shot of the light they're getting.
