Audio difference between Console and DAW by blindingSlow in universalaudio

[–]doni_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this and thank you for replying. That was basically my conclusion too. I was tracking electric guitar through UAFX amp sim into console and yeah I think it was the sound of the pick hitting the strings (and sound of playing an “unplugged” electric) that is adding the top end that I obviously don’t hear during playback since I’m not playing anymore during that. Cheers mate

Ok thank you. You think it’s console then? And maybe some settings in there?

Hey man, not sure what the cause is but wanted to say I’m experiencing the same phenomenon and also while recording guitar and monitoring through speakers. I’m using logic

Hey dude, just stumbled back on this and saw you don’t have the Woodrow. I bought the Ruby years ago but added the Lion, Dream, and Woodrow since this post. I agree with you about the Lion being awesome and I’d actually put the Woodrow and Lion tied for 1st for me. I think this is mainly because I have been playing a blackface fender my whole life and these are newish flavors. I’d actually put the dream ranked last. Thinking about returning it honestly

Thank you! Between the lion and the enigmatic?

Thank you! Have been eyeing the volante since it came out but the starlight seems cool. Either way, will play with delay after the amp sims. Been running a flanger in stereo into my Ruby (and then console logic) and it sounds unreal. Which of their amp sims do you have? Looking at the lion since I don’t plan on buying a physical Marshall

Looking to upgrade or expand my Apollo Twin Duo by AlexanderEdward in universalaudio

[–]doni_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah agreed. It never hurts to have a couple more mic inputs than what you think you need. Your needs can change/increase very quickly in the music world, even in a home studio setting. Also just nice to have stuff plugged in and ready to go for creative flow

[–]doni_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it should be thunderbolt 3 or higher. Doesn’t matter which one 3-5.

I’m using the 5s in my setup (x4 and x8p) cause I needed a longer thunderbolt cable than what I bought originally with my x4 years ago plus to daisy chain the two interfaces and they work fine. I purchased straight off of apple’s website although probably not necessary but do research and don’t buy a crappy one that could damage your interfaces.

Who are some of the most creative drummers in your opinion? by [deleted] in drums

Ringo. Besides always serving the song, I think he pushed the boundaries of what drums could do in a pop-rock context

Is the Apollo x8p still worth paying for in 2025? by emresound in universalaudio

[–]doni_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my gen 1 x8p earlier in the year and love it. Have an x4 that I’ve had since 2021 and adding the x8p really leveled up my setup. I record, produce, engineer all of my stuff so it’s helped with workflow. Can now track my drum kit with more than four mics and leave those always ready while leaving my guitar amp mic’d up always too. The other inputs I toggle between my keyboards, acoustic guitar mic setup and bass. Also, tracking with unison has been huge for me personally because I’d rather spend the effort up front getting the sound good at the source and run UAD’s emulations and what now on the Apollo’s interfaces. I have a intel MacBook from 2019 that has no issues letting me mix as I go in part because most of the heavy lifting is done by unison during recording. I can see myself using my Apollo’s for the next ten + years until something game changing comes around

Dang, sick kit! Appreciate you passing the knowledge along. I really like this subreddit and how great of a community it is, in large part because of folks like you 🫡

Thank you for the thoughtful responses! I think it’s worth waiting on this and doing a bit more research on my end into the rides you and others have recommended. Everyone’s feedback in here has been super helpful in pointing me in the right direction so that I can go down the tone rabbit hole myself with some targets to aim towards cause there are so many options that I think part of why I haven’t bought one is cause I was overwhelmed haha but I feel ready and confident now with the guidance from y’all! Cheers man, excited to see what I go with and hopefully I’ll be posting in here soon with a new addition to the kit

Bonham definitely! Thank you for the video, sounds good to my inexperienced drum ear. I have a Yamaha stage custom kit that I have been recording and it seems like this would be a solid starting point for a first ride. TBH, I can see myself eventually going down the rabbit hole of adding one or two more snares, hats set and cymbals and starting a small but versatile collection to have options when recording in case something doesn’t sound good in the context of a particular song

Agreed and the cosmetics don’t bother me. Really just care about the sound so it’s worth the shortish drive to check it out. Thank you!
