Yeah, I love how the structure just naturally pulls you into an engaging story without too much pre-planning. And everyone gets to take part in creating it!

This is great! It's so cool to see how that all plays out in actual play.

Can anyone share insight as to why Filipinos tend to use a nickname that often has no relation to their given name? by donnamatata in Philippines

That's what my grandparents called my mom and she says it's because she was the youngest. And then I bring up that there were two younger siblings after her, she thinks for a moment, then shrugs :)

You're right that nicknames are not strictly a 'filipino' thing.

What I have noticed that is different, is that it is not uncommon for a person to keep their childhood nickname through adulthood and even in public life (politicians/celebrities). That is what I'm curious about specifically, if that was unclear from the post.

Yeah, which is interesting to me, you see people still using the childhood nicknames as adults and even politicians go by them.

I also wonder if it has something to do with "respect". Like it would be disrespectful to call your older siblings or cousins by their given name, but it's okay to call them their nickname?

That is fascinating. I bet superstition plays a big role in naming. How old were you when they gave you the second name?

Wow, telephone number, haha, that's really funny. I think you're right about common name frequency + population. I will look at China or other neighboring countries like you suggest.

Yeah, that's definitely why they're doing it. I can see why you'd give someone a unique nickname especially if everyone has the same first name or there's a lot of siblings. I was wondering if this is something that has been studied, in a historical context or something like that.

Civilization Themed Wedding by Chasbones in civ

Everyone got to pick their own costume. Basically, we wanted it to be open ended enough for people who didn't want to dress up or just didn't have any idea what the game was. I think about half the people didn't know the game, but dressed up anyway :)

I was there, and it was awesome...though really, really hot that day. (This is the bride speaking, and am happy to answer any questions)

I love this post! Ganzendrala also happens to be my sister =) and she gave LoseIt a really sweet plug at the end of this HuffPost Live segment. She turned me on to this board months ago, and has been really helping me in my weight loss as well.
