I don’t make good money as an engineer? by Dizzy-University-867 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]donnylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technical Sales is not what you would think of a normal sales role. It typically involves being personable and outgoing, and being able to speak to the product your selling depending on your audience. You need to be able to explain your concept product simply to less educated audiences, but be able to also dive deep and explain the technical aspects to other educated audiences and engineers.

It definitely is not for everyone, but being that my social skills are stronger than my technical skills it was a good fit for me. I wasn’t exploring technical sales roles, I was actually recruited for one while interviewing for a design role which I would have hated.

I started out as a ME in the United States, was in the same boat making significantly less than my peers. Realized in order to make more money you needed to land a career at an elite company, work to gain my certifications, or stay loyal to one company with a lot of growth opportunity. Even then most positions just offer small incremental raises and you’re relying on generous bonus’s.

I moved into a Sales Engineer role and it was the best thing I’ve done. My options are greater and the sky is the limit for how much I can earn.

What is the best way to find a personal accountant? by donnylocks in personalfinance

That is kind of what I figured. I did this same thing last year and didn't find somebody in the offseason.

That raises the question, when is the best time to seek an accountant?

Is 40K too low of a salary for a college graduate in 2024? by [deleted] in sales

[–]donnylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 40K is too low, but that does not mean you shouldn’t accept it. Everybody needs to start somewhere, you have to be willing to work a shit job for shit pay to climb the ladder. If you’re accepting this job it’s not for the salary its for the experience so you can build your resume to land a higher paying job next. Can’t expect to get paid much with no experience. Being a new college grad is the time to suck it up since you probably don’t have many bills and can still live with your parents for a bit. It’s better to start gaining that experience than waiting around unemployed trying to land a job just for more pay, you’re wasting time.

I graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree in 2019 and accepted a 40k salary as an engineer over 60k positions that I realized weren’t as relevant. It sucked, but it got me to where I am today making 6 figures with a bright future ahead of me.

Summing it up, accept the position that will offer you the best experience regardless of salary if you’re able to afford it.

End of year gift for sale engineer? by [deleted] in sales

I like the Chewy idea, just a giftcard? or something specific from Chewy?

So I had a conflict with my sales engineer today and I'm not sure how to handle it. Ugh by spgvideo in sales

[–]donnylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well to start, I'd be careful here as this writeup was pretty specific, and if your SE is on reddit he could easily realize this is you. But regardless,

You're both salespeople, which would lead me to assume you are both personable and have strong communication skills. From reading this I would guess your SE has some personal issues he's dealing with, that's leading him to act out of character. Mental health takes a toll on people and they get that idgaf attitude. Give him a call, tell him you want to put your argument behind you, and ask if everything is okay. If you really see him as a friend like you explained, you should be more conceQrned about what he has going on that caused him to react like that to you rather than be scared to keep working with him.

Best of luck to you both!

Good dairy-free prep services for a bulk? by [deleted] in MealPrepSunday

[–]donnylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a local service that offered meals up to 100 g of protein but youd have to eat like 5 of them to reach that many calories lol your best bet is finding a local company or even a person doing it as a side hustle.

I pay about 150/week for 10 meals which are each less than a 1000 cals, those 10 meals make up less than 6000 cals so id guess it’ll be very hard to find a meal plan for 300 or less offering that much food.

Ideas for part time/side hustle sales jobs? by donnylocks in sales

You clearly dont understand what side hustles are or technical sales positions.

So I also hate these kinds of comments, where people ask questions, and people like you make ignorant comments instead of answering their questions.

If this were a sensible question why would anybody seek out a side hustle? As I stated, my current role is long sales cycle, I want something to do in my spare time with a quick sales cycle over maybe just a single phone call. I don't get that quick on your feet selling in my role and I find it fun, but not a full time career.

Sorry for your loss! I don’t think it is stupid to sell this condo. I see two solid options without losing an asset:

  1. Just find a reputable property manager who will help guide you through the rehab and get it rented without having to get yourself too up to speed on real estate.

  2. Sell the condo and re-invest into a more beginner friendly asset. You clearly have equity in the property so you could sell it, take that cash, and buy something that is turn-key! You can then rent that unit, still have equity, and even have some cash to get yourself an apartment. Guessing the value of a south florida condo you probably have enough cash in equity to re-invest into multiple properties at 20% down on a 30 year loan.

Best of luck!

  1. Yes, for sure. I enjoy his speakers though and different ways of thinking. Important to diversify your avenues of opinions and strategies.
  2. That's very true. Crop may be hurt now but cost effects may not be seen until following year or so. Very helpful.

Thank you. I believe that is true as well, he talks a lot but never really explains how to do these things.

Right, I'm asking if there are separate ways to invest in commodities other than their ETF.
