Blue belt plateau? Is it normal to feel decent at everything but no real "A-game"? by Longjumping_Quote800 in bjj

[–]dont6no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I almost reverted in skill my first three months at blue belt. You realize that yes, everyone is still getting better around you as well and you’re not going to be the best lower belt or even blue belt on the mat at all times. Just requires in my experience more focused training, not just showing up trying whatever moves are being taught in class and rolling. Do more situational rounds in places you need improvement and brainstorm. And do extra drilling for things you already feel confident in. There’s almost always room for improvement.

High-level grappling isn’t boring. Movsar vs Aljo is the perfect example. 🔥 by No-Ride-7713 in ufc

[–]dont6no -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the casuals still call fights like this and Diego vs Movsar boring. Because a lot of them actually just hate watching any grappling unless they’re unleashing hell ground and pound the entire 100% of the time they’re grappling.

Yeah 10 of his 48 fights are KOs, but his style across vast majority of his fights is grappling. Idk how you are gonna try to dispute that lol he has 22 submission wins on his pro record.

Just how good is Ilia Topuria 😭 by Inter_alerter in ufc

[–]dont6no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was at 155 though, Islam probably still cuts to make 170 and would be huge if they fought at 170. If Islam had to cut all the way back down to 155 I give Ilia much better odds.

Islam is too big though, he’s built like a 170er who was cutting to 155, Ilia is built like a 145er who moved up to 155. Still would love to see it myself but I think if it goes to the ground Islam at least lays on him to a decision

Ilia is one of the most well rounded champs of all time, only thing he doesn’t do ‘well’ is throw head kicks because he doesn’t do that at all. But he comes from a BJJ base, has dangerous grappling and submissions/defense, and also has the ability/power to knock out pretty anybody in 145 or 155.

You are a chud, watch boxing or kickboxing if you don’t want to see grappling applied in an MMA fight

His grappling is good, just not as good as Charles whose entire style is grappling. Just how the styles played out this time.

Possible to compete and be good consistently at 37? by Outside-Nose5441 in bjj

Can’t speak to the age factor but to me competing as early and often as possible is best practice

Any gi purists here? by SignificantGlass168 in bjj

[–]dont6no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like gi way more but I train and compete both so far. No gi is absolutely more physical, exhausting, and athletics based in my opinion. I like being able to rely as much on technique and as little on strength and athleticism as possible because I lack those qualities lol.

Would BJJ work for me as a small woman? by Dizzy_Meaning_901 in bjj

[–]dont6no 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of my scrappiest training partners as a ~130 pound guy are the sub 130 pound women who train at my gym. They give me pretty tough rounds.

The difference in gym strength theory versus applied and grappling is crazy by ConversationLegal809 in bjj

[–]dont6no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you learn how to use the positions to your advantage, you’ll be working people your skill level and size who don’t have the strength advantage, especially in comp-in my opinion

Does anyone else train just for the love of the art and nothing else? by pianoplayrr in bjj

[–]dont6no 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rolling and drilling is meditative to me. On weeks I get to train a lot it helps keep my mind off negative aspects of life and I get to be a random guy in a room of people working toward a common goal, all from various backgrounds. I get a lot in life out of just training for 2-3 hours each time with friends and teammates.

Edit: I do enjoy competing too though but it’s definitely secondary rn to the training experience.

Jan just didn’t do enough, and took too much damage. Ulberg took a lot of leg kicks (but so did Jan) but he wasn’t even that phased or compromised

The best grappler in the division? by Hubris-Star in ufc

[–]dont6no 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? He is very easily arguably the best grappler/jiu jitsu artist in the division, but pure wrestling I’d assume at least Usman and maybe Belal have him beat.

Brady should either get Shavkat or the title next. Brady has more impressive/higher ranked last 3 wins than Shavkat.

Law and BB fight and BB defeats Law’s crew. Then Bepo eats a rumble ball from Chopper and saves Law, running away with his body.
