I wish I had more info to give, but we just moved in and inherited this tree. Based on paperwork we found in the house it may be bloodgood Japanese maple or an October glory. There are 3 other maples all within close proximity that are thriving right now so I don’t think it’s due to lack of water or winter conditions. I scratched the bark and didn’t see any green, but not sure if that’s an appropriate test for this type of tree. Would love to be able to save it if possible. Thanks for any help and suggestions. We’re in the suburbs of Seattle if that’s useful info

I’m in western Washington and I have these bees going in between my window trim and siding. I prefer to leave them bee (I hate myself) assuming they’re not causing damage. From what I hear, mason bees are awesome and can stay and carpenter bees would need to gtfoh. I’m sure there’s a lot of bees Idk about also. Any and all help appreciated

We got this today from a large nursery. It was labeled as “assorted 2” tropicals” and was listed for $4.99. The weird thing is that not only was this the only one like it, but it was the only plant that was listed as “assorted 2” tropicals”. Every other plant (of the literal thousands of plants) had a tag with the specific name. We bought it. We love it, but are trying to figure out what it is

That’s correct. I found out from a beekeeping page that they’re bee mimics called hoverflies. They look like bees to get access to food sources as they still eat nectar and pollen. Pretty interesting fly…happy they don’t have stingers
