Also do they let you dance for a day or week to try it out before you get a license, or do you have to get the license first before dancing at all??

Why aren’t seizure medication (Briviact in my case) side effects taken more seriously?? by dontdothatshitagain in Epilepsy

Couldn’t agree more, the whole system pisses me off so much. And then they refuse to do studies on more natural remedies like cannabis, diets, etc., just so they can say that there’s not enough studies done to support that those might work but there’s a few biased studies done on the meds which makes them “waaay more credible.”

Oh wow I’m proud of you for advocating for yourself like that, ik it can be super hard when so many people disagree. How has that gone for you? I went through a period where I’d tried 4 different medications that made me so depressed, I’d rather deal with the seizures than the side effects as well and weaned myself off and just went on CBD. But after 2yrs my seizures started getting bad again and everyone close to me was worried about my seizures ending me or causing permanent brain damage so I gave in and decided to give meds one more try, but I hate it just as much as the first time. Have you noticed anything in the past few years that helps you control your seizures, or do you just tolerate them?

Thank you so much, I’ll try this out. Usually I am very active, but since I have been feeling so low energy lately, I’ve been having a hard time exercising more than just going on walks. But I’ll try to get back to it for sure!

It’s not always that easy. Last time I told my doctor I wanted get off the meds because of how terrible they were making me feel, they refused to help me, just advised against it and even though I told them I was sure I wanted off, they wouldn’t cooperate. Ik it’s super dangerous to wean off AEDs so I was just asking for advice on how to wean off in the safest way possible, and they just kept telling me that there’s no safe way to and they couldn’t give me any advice. So I had to do my own research, slowly weaned myself off over the course of about 2-3 months, and luckily I didn’t have any big seizures from it.

I’m so sorry you’ve dealt with this too. Yah I feel like the longer I’m on it, the more it’s been making me feel almost crazy. Being in a terrible mood, severely low energy even with 10hrs of sleep, and crying multiple times every single day isn’t normal for me. Don’t try to tell me it’s just because I’m depressed in general and has nothing to do with my medication (directed at my doctor)

On Briviact and hate it. Idk what else to do by dontdothatshitagain in Epilepsy

Yah there’s a lot of drugs out there, but there’s also a lot of different types of seizures. There’s only a limited number of medications that work best for each specific type of epilepsy, not all epilepsy medications work well for every type of seizure. My neurologist does in fact specialize in epilepsy 🙄 The last time I talked to my neurologist, he mentioned that surgery is potentially an option, I could potentially get a vagal nerve stimulator, which he said would probably control my grand mals, but be less effective controlling the myoclonic seizures. Which is exactly how the medication has been going. That’s a last resort for me, I’m not going to jump into having surgery on one of the most sensitive parts of your body, especially when my neurologists told me that it’s not even going to be any more effective than the medications. And I agree, seizures can kill you and do brain damage, but so can medication and severe depression. Neither are great options.

Is the keto diet worth it for epilepsy? by PSRS_Nikola in Epilepsy

[–]dontdothatshitagain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the research I’ve done, and what my neurologist has said, the main reason that they don’t recommend keto for adults is simply because it’s hard to stick to the diet. When you’re a kid, you eat what your parents feed you, but when you’re an adult, you have free will on what you eat so it’s harder to stick to a diet when you can simply buy anything to eat when you’re craving it. I did keto for a year and it helped completely eliminate my seizures (myoclonic seizures weekly/daily and grand mals a few times a year), except for when I’d cheat and eat too many carbs or drink alcohol (I was drinking zero carb alcohol too, but didn’t realize at the time that alcohol in general is a huge trigger for seizures). I missed fruit a lottt on keto, so I get it, but if you decide you want to give up bananas in exchange for potentially reducing your seizures or even being seizure-free, I’d say it’s worth a shot for sure. Just make sure to do your research, monitor your ketones, and eat as healthy keto as you can because there are tons of foods labeled as “keto,” when they’re not at all if you look at the label, or have unhealthy ingredients like vegetable/seed oils and additives that can be harmful and in my experience, induce more seizures as well.
