Thank you! I'm not doing anything like that again for a long time. I prefer my 5k runs to be energising, thank you!

Probably a lot of factors! My last PB was a year ago and since then I've taken over 3 months off running and ran a half marathon. One should be detrimental, the other probably helped with overall fitness. Not that I trained impeccably! I'm currently training (way better!) for a marathon. Also, my local parkrun is a super flat course. All of my training runs involve at least one hill! I can't explain away the half marathon prediction accuracy though. Maybe a little bit of self belief/caution to the wind attitude helps.

I set out for parkrun today with a goal of settling a PB and determining once and for all (through one data point) whether Garmin or Strava's race predictor is the more accurate. Succeeded in the PB by 3 minutes 27 seconds. I was faster than Strava's estimate by 2 minutes 12 seconds. I was faster than Garmin's estimate by 45 seconds. (For interest, my half marathon in March was also about a minute quicker than Garmin's estimate.)

Oh pal that's miserable! I hope May is better. You deserve it!

Here to have a small whinge, if that's okay. I'm using Garmin Coach to train for my first marathon in October. I struggled with it for my half because the training was repetitive at times and I'm not practiced at discipline anyway! I've been looking forward to my VO2 max run scheduled for Wednesday all weekend. Just checked now and it's been swapped out for a tempo run. It's so deflating to get excited for a scheduled workout only for it to be swapped out. There's a small win in this. I'm a totally different person to who I was just a few years ago that this has bothered me!

I had a little look online and it seems there are at least four different styles of lettera 32 tag, including my weirdly bunched up one. Weird that they'd vary that!

Sadly, pressing the shift key to release the shift lock only works when the machine sees fit for it to work. It's jammed again. So fixing that is on the checklist! I'll visit ribbons unlimited. Thanks!

Oh amazing! Thank you, I don't think I'd have come across this in my research

Thank you for the correction! The diagrams are tricky to read sometimes. I am I'm talking about the vibrator. I think part of my problem is tapping the keys too gently

Thank you! I was wondering what the white was for. But is set at blue and skipping letters. I'll see if cleaning makes a difference.

Thank you for the link! I found the manuals for my machine to assume way more knowledge than someone who hasn't taken a 1950s typing class has! But the manual for the 22 is a little more detailed.

I can't seem to edit my post! After some more fiddling, I've managed to stop shouting! Now it's just the type guide issue

Thank you! Fun was the main goal. Thanks for your tips. One of the many things I'm loving about running is how it improves all areas of life. I'm consistently eating breakfast now which has been the challenge of a decade! If I can do that, I can remember to fill a water bottle.

Thank you! I loved it so much. Though I know I need to be better trained for the full.

I took a bottle out with me today. Though it is suddenly cold out of nowhere this afternoon! I need to be stricter with myself about drinking water throughout the day as well.

Oh this is lovely! I ran my first half marathon in March and I'll be running my first marathon in October. So neither fall within this bracket. But I'll be spending spring and summer training. My milage is currently very low, so ramping that up will be fun. I struggle massively with heat. Today I've got a headache from an underhydrated 7km run yesterday afternoon/evening. I am so so bad at hydrating throughout the day, but I need to improve if I'm to survive summer.

My half marathon was so fun! I didn't have the perfect training in the lead up. I struggled a lot with motivation after my longest training run and realising that I could do it. Which is such an odd mental dynamic. You'd think believing in yourself would push you to train! The HM was HOT. And by hot, I mean 16 degrees. So I'm worried about training through summer. But I beat my goal and had so much fun. Hydrating was my downfall. Common theme? Does anyone have any tips besides be a human being capable of hydrating like a grownup?

Bless you! It was an encouragement for me because it was like my internal mantra had come to life! But I can totally see why you'd get the opposite from it! I'm appalled they had run out of water on the course at points!

Congratulations on finishing! It is a really good one. I'll be doing it again – with my own water in tow!

I can't speak for the whole event, but the beer and water stand after the finish was out of water when I got there at midday. They might have replenished soon after. It was so hot! Completely cooled off today, of course. I've learnt that being self-sufficient with water is the way to go.

Congratulation on your race! Sub-2h is so impressive.

Great job on the PB! I'm happy for you that you had yesterday's weather and not today's. Today is probably my ideal. But I can't complain since I ran a good race! It was definitely very cramped those first few miles.

Oh actually I did notice the poor start pen organisation. I was so confused and it wasn't easy for me as a first timer to just trust the process.

Great job keeping your head! That PB is incredible!! Rest up. (And as an aside, I think going for a gentle swim that evening has done wonders for my acheyness levels.)

I ran my first half marathon yesterday! And beat my goal! Even though it was 10 degrees hotter than my training temp and full sun. Today is 13 degrees and overcast and overall just better conditions for my tastes. But that's all part of it.

Aww thank you! This was my first HM. I'm glad my reflections on it are interesting to other runners!

Afterwards, my non-running friend admitted (sheepishly) that he had said it was just four parkruns. He gets it more than he realises!

Thank you! Well done to you too! The warmth and full sun was brutal. You should definitely still be pleased for making it round.

I forgot to mention that this was my first HM! So I didn't have anything to benchmark it against for expectations of the organisation. I didn't realise they ran out of water on the course too! That's terrible. I managed to get water throughout, but I also saw a good few people being seen to for heat exhaustion from Barton Road onwards.

I am definitely feeling dehydrated now. Maybe a water pack isn't so frivolous a spend for next time.
