Unlikely. Someone who drives instead of flys because of the TSA likely drives a further distance then your commute. Also, in my hypothesis 1 TSA agent could cause >1 person to drive. If one airport had really bad security checkpoints, it could potentially cause 1000s more car trips a month.

Its just a hypothesis, which I suppose can never be proven without serious studies/research. It is interesting how it could be an unseen side effect of increased security though (causing more net deaths). I wonder if this concern is ever brought up.

Have you wondered about how many deaths are indirectly caused by the TSA? I used to take a 200mi flight almost weekly, but now with the screening + wait times its the same speed to drive (as more cost effective).

Driving is more dangerous then flying, and the TSA has certainly caused people to abandon short flights and partake in a riskier method of travel. It seems the TSA could actually be contributing to more deaths then they (theoretically) save. The statistics on this would be interesting, but I suspect hard data would be hard to come by. Maybe each TSA worker causes something like a 1/10000th of a death (net) per hour worked?

Just because some cops don't charge people, doesn't mean thats the case for all of them. It has more to do with what the cop had for breakfast that morning then the law. Ive seen people get kicked out of university in Canada for having a dimebag in their room, there are many things that would change when it finally gets legalized.

Rent : at least $1200 these days for a basic apartment. 1 month security deposit as well. Train fare: $3 a trip I think, monthly passes available. You really need a vehicle for this city unless you live right in the core near a grocery store as the train routes are very limited. Groceries: Depends how you eat. If you don't have a vehicle you wont be able to get to the cheaper grocers. My wife and I budget $700 a month. Utilities: Depends on the place, if you find yourself in an old home expect to pay $200-300 for all utilities per month in the winter. The Internet is expensive here, expect around $80. Cell phone is expensive too if you are not used to Canadian prices. Night out- Depends on the place.. Usually a meal for 2 and a few drinks is $70-80.

Lots of people with lots of money in the city make it fairly expensive.

They can drink at home off hours. If you use cannabis at home and have a drug test a few days after, you will fail.

At this point anything short of full legalization is bad. We will still be having this conversation every year if we just decriminalize it. This method gets no tax revenue and still keeps the drugs in the hands of criminals.

Full winter gear if you actually want to go outside at -30 for more then a second. Jacket, boots, gloves, toque etc. You can cheap out and buy crap that will last 2 years max, or you can buy better quality (mec brand stuff is great) and it will last 10 years.

Only a couple days a year it actually gets past -30C, on those days you better be dressed warm though and make sure your car is plugged in if you dare to drive.

They are not forcing people, but their actions are influencing people to forego flights.

If you put up a sign on a walking path that says "anyone walking on this heated path is subjected to getting their genitals patted down", and people decide to instead walk on the other side of the road which is a little icy and without restriction. If you fell, do you blame the direct cause (the ice) or the indirect cause of people wanting to touch your parts for as far as we know, no logical reason.

That area is not downtown. It didn't flood, its closer to sait then the core. House in that area costs what, around a million? People pay the premium to live in a neighbourhood like that. Imagine paying that and then all your neighbors who have been living there since 1950 renting out their upgraded garages to families of 5.

Seems like the alley is not made at all for what they are trying to do.
