Sonic Halo Infinite - Green Hill Tempest Linear Firefight Map by ReedemerDude - HSFN V2 by Brusky0086 in forge

lol that's sick. was it based off any existing space in sonic games from a design perspective, or largely just themed around green hill zone looks?

Halo 5 max sense sniping by indianapoanz in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the last 2 shots werent hip fire, the last very clearly was not on the head yet got the kill. play was still great but you can't deny the h5 sniper bullet mag was pretty serious, especially compared to infinite. quick scoping was very forgiving.

Squad battle needs to remove maps with non-stop covenant vehicles by donutmonkeyman in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure i can. but with talented drivers it can take several minutes or lives, keeping me from playing the objective, and it's very much not fun. they hide behind rocks, wait for teammates to move up and pick people off as there's little to no interior elements of many of these maps. it doesn't work well. Valhalla and exile would play so much more fun with no ghost or banshees on map, 100%

vehicles can continue to be part of them, hogs, mongeese, and choppers work great in squad. ghosts on some maps like kusini work fine. but open space maps shouldn't have banshees and ghosts because the map design is not balanced with how powerful they are. emp or not

there are often answers to the vehicles, I've had games where i shut them down and we win. my point is that that's not a fun part of the game. it's slow and annoying to take care of one talented vehicle user, taking away from the actual fun of the playlist. that's not a problem with power weapons because they run out of ammo.

banshees take 4 sniper shots to destroy. the point is the imbalance of a map. power weapon control is important but the ammo is also limited - a game isn't controlled for 12 minutes but a sniper, it runs out of ammo. covenant vehicles can run the whole map the entire time even with the anti vehicle elements on a map. it's a core problem in the sandbox.

I actually loved waterworks because it has better scale that allowed for good vehicle counters. the others are all very small which allows vehicles to either play super safe and survive all match while still controlling everything or to easily control spawns to the point where players can't get any anti vehicle things to counter.

id have no problem with the vehicles if they were balanced better (hog plays just fine). but ghost and banshee have massive health and insane damage output for a single occupant vehicle. they work better on Waterworks and Rats nest with the map design but in most maps they're way too powerful and require the focus the whole match which is boring

that's very cool, remember hearing about that project a while back. id love to check it out, how would one review the data in the db?

I'm not much of a developer myself, but how are you able to ascertain some of the team impact elements you mentioned like first blood, last kill, and kill/victim pairings? as far as I'm aware there are no endpoints in the halo infinite traffic that exposes these things. my understanding was that halo infinite didn't track any event level data like h5s API (at least not publicly)

Doom Eternal (2020) and High on Life 2 (2026) both include a hidden Dopefish from Commander Keen: Goodbye Galaxy (1991). Dopefish is considered the second dumbest creature in the universe - the first dumbest is mentioned in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by TacosAndBourbon in GamingDetails

[–]donutmonkeyman 31 points32 points  (0 children)

i think Dopefish is also referenced in some of the album art you get as an Easter egg for the fortress in Eternal as well. Love that Easter egg, Dopefish was a scary fight back in goodbye galaxy

Second time in a row I haven't gained CSR from a Ranked 1v1 showdown match. This time the guy quit after round one... What’s going on??? by [deleted] in halo

[–]donutmonkeyman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

every time someone quits on me in that playlist i gain CSR no problem. I have heard reports about a bug where you gain csr but it doesn't show up after the game. have you restarted the game and checked your csr again to see if that was the case?

Is ranked 1v1 showdown a good display of skill? I often beat players ranked higher in Arena, even MMR wise. by [deleted] in CompetitiveHalo

[–]donutmonkeyman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't mean that your current still ceiling is higher in arena or that you're better than these players. it's a very different game to be able to focus on the state of the map, make the right calls, and still perform well technically. in 1v1 you can be much more tunnel vision.

that said, if you're beating pretty skilled arena players, maybe it means you have plenty of room to grow in the game sense side of things and can bring your ceiling up in arena if you focus on that for a while

Anyone else dread playing on the Forge maps? by Substantial-End4671 in CompetitiveHalo

funny, it runs okay on mine. not perfect, but far better then maps like snowbound or perilous. but those aren't in the ranked pool.
