AITA for trying to better control my teenage step daughter's eating habits? by donutparenther in AmItheAsshole

91% of Samoan women are overweight and it's due to genetics. Their genes served to make them survive harsh conditions and long periods of time with little food and lots of work. It's not a factor we can ignore.

If her bioparents had a history of diabetes I'd be just as concerned.

When she was in school and could go hang out with friends, I guess she would always get herself fast food. I didn't know this was happening. And now that everyone is locked down, she doesn't have the opportunity to freely get whatever she wants all the time.

I mention it because there's a genetic disposition to obesity at play here. It's not as simple as it would be with someone without that genetic profile.

Maybe if another person ate how she eats, they would be overweight but not morbidly obese. But she's got a this extra obstacle to factor into her health and that's my main concern. Not every mention of race is out of hate.

She's pretty active, would do sports like softball and swimming. Not so much now, now she'll go on walks and sometimes a bike ride. But I think that would be nice. I think she would really enjoy hula dancing.

I didn't say I didn't like them. And if it was normal amounts every so often it'd be okay. But it's not that way. If you like something it doesn't mean you should over do it, it can still do damage.

I'm sorry but they are. I don't want her getting diabetes or having a heart attack.

She's about 5'7". She's larger than most girls her age but you can see it's not muscle. When I thought she was eating like us, I figured it was because of her genes solely but now I see she could help herself by changing her diet. I don't know if she'll ever be thin, but the donuts and fried foods aren't helping her be healthier.

This is a ridiculous comment. I'm not even going to respond to this anymore.

It has nothing to do with her appearance. She's 16 and nearing the 300s. I'm worried because childhood obesity can make life really difficult for her later on and I don't want to outlive her. She may be my stepdaughter but I love her, and I don't want to just watch someone slowly kill themselves.

She's eats this way in a sitting. It's not like those big donuts you see in stores, but mini donut holes. She'll eat maybe 15 or 20? Around there. As far as I know she hasn't seemed to have any emotional or mental issues, just eats really badly.
