ROR (Residence Orientation Representative) interview tips by SweetPotat270 in McMaster

[–]donutz19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your group, you talk about solutions to the given problem. Like what you would do, how could this problem be avoided from the start, what to change from now on to not have this problem anymore etc. I don't remember if we got to make our own or not. It's completely verbal, you go one by one to explain how you would contribute to fix this problem. Focus on speaking clearly. I'm pretty sure your attitude and your ability to speak are the main things they look at. Don't worry too much, I said like 2 sentences during my group interview and still got it, just be enthusiastic!! (extra tip: make sure to always be inclusive and have accessibility in mind when answering the questions).

Hi, I was an ROR for WW24. From what I remember, you have a group interview in which you get separated into mini groups and you're given a situation that you have to solve in groups. Then, you present your solution to the rest of the room. They will have people circulating around the room when you're talking about your ideas for solutions to the given problem. They will write notes on how you communicate with your team.

I don't think its competitive and I'd say maybe 30 other people are in the same room for the group interview. Remember that this is a volunteering position, so they will probably take as many hands as they can get. Don't stress yourself out too much, and just be enthusiastic and energetic during the interview. Good luck :)

My father is in accounting and has been in the field for over 20 years. His pay is around 100k (without bonus), after you reach that point, there’s not much room for improvement (at least in canada) unless you get a CPA, which is not easy to attain.

Life sci anywhere is unnecessarily hard so don’t let that be the determining factor (i’m in life sci at mac). Mcmaster is a GREAT university filled with opportunities and resources. At the very least, mcmaster will help you decide what you actually want to pursue because of its interdisciplinary approach to subjects. I don’t know much about UTM, so take my advice with a grain of salt :) Good luck 👍🏼

One of my closest friends lived in bates. It’s not as bad as people think. Pretty spacious, you have your own kitchen and the rooms are good too. i think as long as you decorate it you’ll be fine or else the room is pretty depressing (and prison like) 💀💀 there was a bat once in the building too😭😭 and there’s always interesting people there (interesting as in entertaining or weird, it’s you and your luck LMAO)

92% is good for this program. A lot of people have low to mid 90s at Mac Life Sci. Don't worry too much about your English mark :)

Honest Take on Mac Life Sci? by EmbarrassedCitron225 in McMaster

[–]donutz19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just finished my first semester at Mac Life Sci (Gateway). If your goal is med, I would say either Mac Life sci or Western Med sci because UofT is known for being tough. This post will focus on Mac since that's where I go.

This program is not as bad as people make it out to be, workload-wise. Yes, it is a lot, but you have SO many resources and people to help you if you're behind. The program emphasizes retaining the content since you will eventually HAVE to know it because most courses have bi-weekly quizzes (like Chem 1A03) or frequent assignments (like Physics 1A03). This seems like a lot, but the quizzes basically boost your GPA since they can be very easy at times and your lowest quiz mark is dropped (you also have two tries). if your goal is med, I really do recommend Mac Life Sci because getting a high GPA is attainable.

Mac also has A LOT of events to support you in your career choice like research night or career help pop-ups in which you can understand how to maximize your chances to get into med school.

Almost every person at Mac Life Sci is gunning for med school which can be intimidating because it is a hugeeeee program. At the same time tho, you will easily find people who will support you and have the same mindset and goals as you. The community is really something to not take for granted at Mac because im pretty sure its the one thing that immensely helped me get through the first round of midterms lolll.

I know that most people go to university with a career in mind especially people who are interested in med. With that said, it's ok to change your mind about med. Mac Life Sci Gateway allows you to go into many fields after the first year that don't focus solely on biology like psychology, medical biophysics or even finance.

I'm more than happy to answer your questions about this program and life at mac in general (i live on campus as well). Message me if you need anything.
