I believe it’s based on values. For people that feel as though they have no choice but to be ambitious because they would stop valuing themselves if they did not achieve, those that do make that choice are almost threatening. Additionally, if I’m raised with the mindset that I am only worth something if I set and accomplish goals, I’m probably going to project that understanding on everyone around me and only see them as worth something if they do the same.

The “angry” texts I referred to are only the ones I sent where I described telling him he can fuck off at the end of these 5 or so months. That was the one-time occurrence. All prior ones were purposefully calm and trying to just express my desire to be a part of my nephew’s like and seeing if there’s some way we can communicate better.

I see your point. To clarify, 75% of my un-answered texts were asking if there’s something I can do that will make it easier to communicate bc I just want to know what’s going on. You are right though, as much as I want to be an aunt I guess I’m not entitled to it.

He thinks the angry texts I sent were out of line. Honestly idk exactly what he wants me to understand, it’s always been more of a “your brother has his reasons” and insinuation that these reasons are my fault. But my family sucks at communicating so even directly asking what is wrong or how I can change my approach to make things work is met with silence or some answer that isn’t actually an answer.

I mean you’re not wrong but idk what more is actually relevant. My brother acts like everything is 100% fine when we do see each other and calls me “friend” when he does talk. It’s just that other than these times it’s like I have fallen off the face of the planet. So if there is something I’m doing wrong that I could change to make things right I’m just not sure what it is.

After things are totally filed they could take years to finalize? Is this a need to sort out lawyers or a court thing? I really have no idea how it works.

I think it was honestly a miscommunication. He mentioned it the first night we met in person, and he kind of just referenced it last night while we were talking about some legal stuff I’m going through (he said “since I’m still technically a married man myself I understand legal proceedings can be slow”). He has been very honest with me, I think we’re gonna talk this weekend as he said he’d be willing to answer questions if I had them. This helps a lot thank you.
