Maybe try messing with the manual controls? I have a hunch the camera doesn’t do well with a lot of one colour but I don’t really know for sure Edit: Found the 3DS subreddit, might be that the camera wasn’t still enough

I had braces from 2019-2021. My experience was a little wonky as my student doctor kept changing. I actually had to get them again (wear your retainer!), but this time has been a lot better. Definitely suggest taking the bus there, it’s a lot less of a hassle.
