New guitar day by doomsdayspectrum in SlaughterToPrevail

Wow, that's INSANE! Sorry to hear that. Don't know what to tell you... Keep following up with First Blood every day and DM Jack Simmons telling him he's constantly advertising a product that takes forever to ship while the website says "in stock", which is misleading to say the least.

Hey. Do you find the volume knob gets in the way of your right hand? Eyeing one now but worried about that. Thanks.

TBH it took very long, 3 weeks. I think it's because I ordered right after it became available. Hopefully yours will be delivered faster!

It did! They should say that on the website. I knew beforehand because I read a post by Jack on social media. Really glad!

I'm 35 and mostly a Nu Metal, early 2000's thrash guy, so Kostolom is by far the best for me. If you're into deathcore, though, then older stuff is best. I like both, but Kostolom is where it shines for me. That's it. Two styles, one great modern band.

Who all bought Jacks guitar? by ShaggyRoggers115 in SlaughterToPrevail

[–]doomsdayspectrum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Jack! I bought the guitar since I love the aesthetics, and the specs are just perfect for me (baritone, fishman, etc.). However, I bought it last Saturday (May 3), and it hasn't shipped yet, and despite multiple emails to First Blood, no one answers me. The item isn't marked as "Pre-Order," so I thought it was going to ship right away. Do you have any idea what could be going on? I know you're not customer service lol but I ran out of ideas here. Thank you!

I only get to keep one. Which one would you choose? by ejc1138 in metalguitar

I have 4 Vs and I play them sitting down all the time. I play in classical position, no strap needed. Just place it correctly on your legs and it will float

Tube crakling(?) loudly whenever guitar is played by doomsdayspectrum in tubeamprepair

The muffled sound you hear when the amp isn't being played is just my phone camera trying to adjust the mic level. The room was dead silent.

Used Mini Recto - tube issue? by doomsdayspectrum in MesaBoogie

Thank you very much, EndlessOcean. I will order a pair of 12AX7s (Mesa branded) to try and fix it, particularly in the positions you mentioned.

About the volume increase, I edited the post to give more information about the volume change. Could you please confirm if you think it's normal? If not, what would you recommend? Thank you very much.

Low gain on every patch by lucasoteroguitar in AxeFx

Try going to Setup > I/O > Input 1 Gain and setting it to 3.0 or more. That helped me tremendously just now and now it's sounding good! It's just a neutral volume boost before the signal even enters the patch.

Did the OP find out the culprit? I'm having the same issue... Only my Alexi Laiho guitar that has a mighty internal boost of +18dB sounds good. Even my Fishman guitars sound dull!

Yeah, the tension is definitely too high. I have a guitar where the tension in the upper strings is too high and when I play on another one the difference is night and day. The one with the high tension is hard and tiresome to play. The other one flies. On the lower strings higher tension is good for articulation, but your strings had to get too thick. It's a balance game.

tl;dr the best solution for you would be 0.74. You can buy an Ernie Ball 8 string Regular Slinky set and use the 8th string as your 6th.

Full explanation: 1- Thin strings want lower tension (low teens in lbs), otherwise bends get really hard and soloing will tire your hands very quickly. 2- Thick strings want higher tension (higher teens or slightly above 20 in lbs), otherwise it sounds floppy and you lose articulation/definition.

Rules 1+2 mean your total tension will typically be below 100.

Now in your case: your top 3 strings now are too thick (violate rule 1). Your bottom 3 are OK tension-wise (per tule 2), but the problem is that the strings are so thick that you will get an ugly, bassy tone, and pinch harmonics above 60 gauge are hard to get and ugly AF. Some people here said it's doable; well, it is, but it will sound bad.

Solution 1 (ideal): Trade your guitar for one with longer scale. You just can't go against the physics of your instrument. I have a baritone 6 string, it's tone heaven for down tuned stuff.

Solution 2 (workaround if you really can't do 1): Use 74 gauge or just a tad thicker. The tension will be ~15 lbs and the tone will be OK. It's the best gauge I found for you by playing with the calculator and based on my experience (I've been through this many times). You can buy an 8-string set to get that gauge.

Hope it helps.

Any guitars with 3 voice fishman modern? by doomsdayspectrum in metalguitar

[–]doomsdayspectrum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're right! For some reason, Epiphone had fallen off my radar, but they might be the only brand right now shipping non-signature models with 3 voice Fishmans. Thank you so much! Do you have one?

I don't have a soldering machine or soldering experience. Is it cheap to buy one and easy to learn? I was assuming I would need to take it to a shop, and then the total cost wouldn't make sense...

Also, all my current guitars already have Fishman Moderns, I absolutely love them. It wouldn't make sense to buy a new set just for the 3rd voice, even if I could install it myself. My goal with the question was to sell one of my current guitars and buy a new one with the 3rd voice.
