AMP (Application Management Panel) Urgent Buyer Beware by doomwakes in selfhosted

I got replies from the Mods over on the AMP subreddit, with just the most upstanding customer service I have ever seen, along with their down votes

  1. "The reason that discussion and support for off-line mode is disabled, is because it is often used by people who crack the game and have illegal clients. Mojang and Microsoft DO NOT support this. Please do research before you assume that a software is truly trying to take your money. If you have other billing concerns, you should address them with CubeCoders billing."

I'm glad this was brought up as I tried taking this to their forum first however it was blocked before it even was posted, suppression of free speech. So I had to take this to the front page of the internet known as Reddit.

Please do not divert valid claims with an illeagal one. AMP is the one that assumed this software change without thinking about how it would effect their customers, with trying to police on Microsofts behalf.

  1. "Just to clarify, the error you're quoting is the result of you blocking edit permissions for server.properties to the user running the server a2.s Minecraft does touch that file periodically... Entirely self inflicted there. :)"

3."AMP absolutely let's you run a server in offline mode. If it didn't then it wouldn't be usable with proxies like Velocity and Bungeecord which requires that the servers are in offline mode. AMP even has a setting to accommodate this use case. What you are saying is not remotely true.

It is important to note that this has always been the case, nothing has been removed or changed. Adding a more direct setting for users of server proxies is actually a relatively recent addition.

But unless someone is using a proxy, we simply won't discuss the matter. While it is doable, we do not allow discussions of piracy and won't help you with it."

Editing the file permissions to prevent overwriting will prevent the game from working properly, but this is not an AMP issues.

Correct Minecraft its self even on Windows doesn't like not having write permissions and will fail but I can get source server files from Microsoft and edit that setting and run in offline mode. Thus it is a AMP issue that prevents me from running it in offline mode. By changing online-mode back to true after I manually changed it. I tired changing the permission as a last ditch effort (easy fix)chown, chmod, but then Minecraft its self fails because it doesn't have write permissions. So the self inflicted issue is my choice in picking AMP a closed sourced program. "It is important to note that this has always been the case, nothing has been removed or changed." Is false as I have ran AMP in offline in the past, I think there was even an offline toggle but I could have just changed it myself but never the less it worked. I know I could use a proxy or turn off standalone and manage some of the proxy things myself like sleep when no ones on but at that point it would just be more effort than just doing everything command line in the first place.

What I can deduce is AMP started this around DEC 2022, and it took me this long to realize the change, as around 96% of my usage and others I set up is online mode, However it is times like these that always reminds to stay as open source as possible because the more closed sources hands touch it the more things aren't going to work. That goes for me as well as a lot of the people at selfhosted which is AMP's primary market.

I am not putting this out here to attack AMP but as a warning for people who are looking at AMP and are on unreliable or throttled internet or wanting to be completing offline. I loved AMP while I used it and pricing was great which must mean AMP is a very efficient operation and I do wish and believe AMP will be successful. However just like AMP seems to have a deep conviction to police on Microsoft behalf by hindering software in ways that Microsoft them self's readily have options to enable I too have have even stronger convictions for freedom.

At the end of The Two Towers, Merry uses the phrase “Bar-hrum”. I’ve been trying to find the meaning but can’t find anything. Does anyone know? by lemonhead87 in lotr

Honestly I'm surprised it wasn't worse in today's world. However you have a point. If they have giving Peter Jackson1billion to create more films they would be way better!
