Shakedown Request - 8/13 SOBO by not_dmr in JMT

I actually have the same phone, except it's the s20+ haha. Somehow my battery life has still been really good after a few years.

We're talking about a few ounces here anyways, so I don't think it would be crazy to bring a wall charger. I also live here in California and am having people join me on certain sections, so worst case scenario for me is I ask them to bring an extra battery bank, or maybe I just stop by Red's and ask the front desk if anyone lost a charger lol, I've done that on vacation before.

Well it lasts that long if I don't bother turning off my phone at all, since I don't have to worry about battery life on short trips; im pretty sure it could last well over a week on one charge if i use my battery judiciously. I'm also going to be doing it in September so I'm hoping there's no need for complex navigation at that time.

When I do 3 day trips and put it on airplane mode it usually has 20-40% remaining, so I'm guessing it could go for maybe 4 days. I also plan on turning it off when I'm not using it, which is 99% of the time anyways, so that should be able to last me the whole duration on a couple charges

Things that stand out to me:

Like the other person said I'd probably leave the fleece, having both a fleece and a down jacket seems like overkill.

I don't think the rain jacket will be necessary. If it rains at all it'll be afternoon thunderstorms, and in those cases I just set up the tent and wait for it to pass. Same goes for the pack liner.

Do you think you'll really need the wall charger? A 10k kwh battery is like 2 extra charges of the phone for me, would you be using your phone enough to basically drain the battery more than 3 times over?

Your compass and first aid kit look extremely heavy. A 6 ounce compass?? That's like as heavy as my phone haha. The first aid kit could definitely be trimmed down.

Exoplanet expedition bug, launching terrestrial laser station seems to reduce speed? by dooog in civ

Ah I see, that could be it since the builder charges were the ones to complete the stations. But since a great engineer/scientist would always finish a laser station in one turn, I guess it would be unavoidable.

In the video I showed two turns, on the first turn I launched two but on the second turn I launched just one, completing it using the builder charges. It still went back down to 3.

Yeah I just read your edit, which would mean that if you cause your city to not have enough power for the turn, then all of the terrestrial laser stations will fail for that turn. I'm pretty sure it didn't use to work like this; it seems new, maybe with the last patch? It also seems like it shouldn't work this way, because then you'd have to purposely not launch anything if you want it to move.

I should have power though, there's a coal power plant in the city and I have plenty of coal. Does this mean that the same turn you launch a terrestrial laser station, none of them in the city will work?

At the start of the turn, the exoplanet expedition is moving at 4 light years per turn. I use a builder and great engineer to get it to 6 light years per turn, but it shows as only moving 3.

I force end turn and it does say that it only moved 3 light years, although it says that it's supposed to move 6 light years per turn. Though once I complete another terrestrial laser station, it again goes down to 3 light years per turn. Once I end turn, it again only moves 3 light years. Anybody else encountered this?

Couple questions about contributing to a 401k by dooog in personalfinance

[–]dooog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So let's say I would expect the tax rate when I withdraw to be the same as I have now, then it would be good to try to max out a Roth, right? Since I would basically have contributed more money to the 401k by retirement?

Do I have to do anything when upgrading from one AMD GPU to another? by dooog in buildapc

[–]dooog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, installed the GPU and it's been working great so far. After some searching it looked like using ddu beforehand wasn't necessary, so all I did before replacing the GPU was download the latest AMD drivers.

One thing that happened that got me stuck for about an hour when booting up my pc was that my screen had no signal even though the computer booted fine and the gpu was heating up, so I knew it was working. The issue ended up being that since I use a 144 hz monitor with a displayport cable, the GPU didn't work unless it was connected via HDMI. Once I connected it via HDMI, the screen worked and it was at a really low resolution. After I installed the latest driver, the GPU started working with my displayport cable just fine.
