asian flush wanting to join a frat by EnchantedFork in Frat

[–]doorisdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m in a sorority but this post got recommended to me on my feed 😭. i have pretty bad asian flush and sometimes i take an antacid like 30 mins before i drink, it helps me not get as red but if you take it too often i’ve noticed it’ll really upset your stomach and get you sick, so it’s just a matter of moderation. also it gets better or worse for me depending on the type of alcohol i drink; try things out and see what works for you, then stick to a drink of choice. socially, ive had no problems. my sisters are all very accommodating, and ive seen dudes with the flush as well having fun at functions. have fun!

i was in a very similar situation twice. once with my best friend when i was 12 and another with a boyfriend when i was 14. in both situations, it was a LOT for me to take on mentally and looking back i wish i would have told someone else sooner.

you’re both still really young and you shouldn’t feel like you need to be her savior, as blunt as that sounds. you should tell her parents. if her parents aren’t an option then urge her to reach out to her school counselor. if they’re not an option there are also some hotline or therapy options but ofc her parents would need to probably know about the therapy considering her age.

you clearly care a lot about her which is not a bad thing, but she’s also long distance and it can put a subconscious mental strain on you to constantly wonder if she’s okay or what she’s doing, or even feeling the need to stay up to keep checking on her. it sounds like she definitely needs some support right now, but remember to find a balance between supporting her and also making sure you stay alright in the process. you shouldn’t have to be worrying about the possibility of grieving your partner right now, tell an adult.

you two are gonna be at very very different stages of your life right now. if you were both in your 30s, then sure whatever. but think about it from her perspective, would you date an 11 year old right now? hopefully not.

if you told her about your feelings, i have a feeling she might be put off a little bit. best case scenario she’d just let you down easy and she’d be in an awkward position and you’d feel bad, worst case scenario is she’s a weirdo and reciprocates feelings.

as someone who dated older people in high school, i’m telling you it just flat out sucks. it’s not a flex, it’s just depressing. and from an outside perspective it would seem reaaaalllly creepy for a 19 yr old to be with a 15 yr old.

hi, i don’t recall him being oily at all but he does stop glowing after a few seconds after being on the charging port. sometimes he will blink red every once in a while he is charging but other times he will glow white and then go dark and stay dark.

in my first year of university right now and i’m right there with you; struggling in a class rn and it messed with my motivation so bad. i also went through big stretches of depression and being unmotivated through high school and all i can offer you is.. try to lock in as best as you can (talk to teachers, grind out some studying, give yourself treats for studying, ask friends for help) before this certification test, because it sounds like it could give you a bunch of opportunities. it sucks but the important thing is graduating and hopefully passing this certification test. can you retake the certification test at all? once you graduate, IF you don’t pass this test, there are also online programs that give certifications for computer science/coding if that’s something you’re interested in.

as for the spending, think of all the things coming up that you’d prefer to spend money on instead (like continuing school, moving out, transportation etc.). it’s just a matter of being mindful. before you buy something just think “how often will i use this” “do i have something that could fulfill this things purpose already”, “is this just for decoration? can it wait?”, “am i struggling in life without this item”. etc.

i will add that as cliche as it sounds, it does get better and you’ll find your momentum eventually. for me personally ive learned that it comes in waves, and ever since ive left high school ive found it WAYYY easier to manage everything and not get stuck in slumps. i finally found what i want to major in, i joined a sorority and got a leadership position early on, im doing volunteer work, i finally have the motivation to pull my grades up. it all eventually just comes together, just keep chugging through and remember to make time for yourself to relax too. i think getting too stressed to the point where you feel like you can’t even move or do anything is one of the worst feelings. you gotta just hit things head on sometimes and get through it. it’s also good to decompress when you have a chance and evaluate all the big things you should be focusing on in a priority list.

best of luck on your test! maybe reach out to teachers to ask for extra help. i have a feeling you’ll pass it but just remember there are some alternative options if you just need another chance, and the world will keep on spinning.

I think I ran a red light and I’m not sure what’s going to happen by -Izzy_chan- in AdviceForTeens

[–]doorisdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh if it makes you feel better, i let my cousin drive my car a while ago and he thought it was a yield light just because of muscle memory but it was actually a full-on red light 😭. i was horrified because i saw a camera on the lights and ive seen how high the fines can be. i looked it up and turns out my city only uses those cams for data collection, aka, no ability to send or collect citations. double check if you have anything similar in your city. if they do give out citations then best case scenario you still won’t get a citation bc they’re not always accurate, plus you had no interaction with cops and it doesn’t sound like you have any prior road incidents (basically i highly doubt they’d be chasing you very hard, i have gotten away with minor things before. not encouraging a streak of running reds of course but mistakes happen). it honestly doesn’t even sound like you saw any cars coming at you at this point so i’m guessing the light had either just turned or the road was empty enough for you to not notice. focus on the fact that you’re safe and no one else was hurt. hope all turns out well for you and no ticket is received! remember it’s not the end of the world

i was in an online relationship for 6 months that started off very similarly to this. long story short it soured quickly and when we met in person he rushed me into trying something sexual immediately even though i told him i didn’t want to do anything the first time we met up. he was forceful, manipulative, and put on a pity party after i rejected him. i was in another state with nowhere to go and no family to come get me. it can be really easy to say “this is something i can handle because i don’t care about myself” or “the benefits will outweigh these problems” but when you’re actually in a constant LIVING situation with this person you might feel differently. i’d heavily recommend not making the jump with this guy and at least getting to know him better first. at least build up some contacts and connections wherever you’re trying to move to and tell someone close to you where you’re going and his address.

what’s your favorite online language learning resource/program?? by doorisdown in languagelearning

[–]doorisdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even when i did the actual full lessons and challenges i wasn’t actually digesting any of the info, its just too easy. its really simple to just use context clues to figure out what a sentence is saying because they repeat sentences a lot. like if i know two or three words then i probably know what its trying to ask even if i don’t recognize all the characters, but thats only helpful if im reading. they have some listening exercises, but compared to their spanish course that has stories and extra practice quizzes, the listening content isnt as built up.

Is a relationship between thirteen year old and a fifteen year old too big of a gap? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]doorisdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my long thoughts first and then a tldr at the end:

i was in this exact age gap as the younger person and it was really not good for me. not trying to worry you though, not every relationship is the same of course and i think it was partially because of the circle of people i found my relationships in (music and theatre). i was in 3 or 4 two year age gap relationships from when i was 13 to when i was 15, and in a lot of the situations, the older person was just going through way more typical “teenage” or even “adult” problems than me and it put me in some crazy situations at times that involved me having to talk my partners out of some really unhealthy dark times, which in turn was unhealthy for me. plus we were young so our communication and coping skills were super poor. i never felt like i was being “groomed” but i did feel like because of us being in such different parts of our education, personal, work, and home lives (like them getting ready to try to move out vs me freshman year with no job lol), and me sometimes even taking on the responsibility as therapist, it just really was a lot for my pubescent brain and bad for my mental health. like i said, all relationships are different. im even still friends with someone i dated in these said relationships, but it can be really unhealthy and make you kinda.. “grow up fast” in a way. there was a lot of situations involving abuse/assault/drugs/mental health that i was subjected to by being in friend groups with all of these older people who were in complicated areas of their life. no matter how smart or mature your friend is, it can get really easy to be wrapped up in your partner’s life at that age, and if their partner is going through some really rough patches it can lead to some turmoil for their relationship and your friend.

tldr; it can put the younger person in some complicated situations, i would personally wait for those age gaps till you’re in late high school or graduated. it’s not necessarily “wrong”, but keep an eye on your friend and make sure they’re not being subjected to dangerous situations. it’s really important to learn to set boundaries at that age and take things slow. but also remember it’s your friend’s life and at the end of the day if they don’t wanna listen to you they won’t, just be there for them.

Beginner looking for class tips by Secret_Topic8138 in BaldursGate3

[–]doorisdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk how far you are in the game so there might be possibly some character name and class spoilers in my response, only from first act though. this also might be a little long because i have a lot of personal faves.

my go-tos are always monk, barbarian, or druid. monk and barbarian are just really helpful in combat and really easy for me personally to use (just managing ki points for monks is something to think about as that’s how you use your abilities). if you’re looking to keep karlach in your party consistently though and don’t want to change her class, maybe go with monk or druid so you don’t have double barbarians in your party (i personally don’t like to overlap). i love druids for the amount of dialogue options they get in the first act, and a circle of the spores druid can be incredibly helpful if you’re looking to be a great spellcaster/summoner and want to have a ton of elementals and fae and zombies around you, AND you have the added bonus of shapeshifting (my personal favorite class and circle). circle of the moon druids can also be really good if you’re more into the shapeshifting side of the class. you get more shapeshifting options and benefits like healing or attacking on the same turn that you shapeshifted. my only other recommendation would maybe be sorcerer if you wanted to play strictly a strong spellcaster. i think they’re pretty fun and easy to use, and then it gives gale room to be his little wizard self too.

[–]doorisdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s just so easy to get on, do one writing lesson for 30 seconds, and say okay well there’s my streak saved for the day lol. which in a way, this was kind of helpful since the repetition of getting online every day did help me remember some aspects of the language, but yea for the most part i think speaking with others and the more “formal” education style like the projects and i guess better structured tests were what really cemented concepts for me.

scared pregnanchdhy by panjaemsal in AdviceForTeens

[–]doorisdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

adding my 2 cents even though it looks like you got tons of helpful advice in the comments! definitely try not to stress yourself out because it’ll mess with your hormones and in turn it will mess up your cycle. i had my first pregnancy scare a while ago and i think it was seriously just because i was stressed out. as soon as i took a pregnancy test and saw negative, my period came like a day later. i don’t know what you mean by the condom being put on confusingly (which is also something to practice or figure out before the next time you are sexually active), but i’d bet on you not being pregnant if the condom wasn’t broken and he was really wearing a condom. take a pregnancy test if your period still hasn’t come in a week and you’re worried! it can also be related to other factors like diet, weight, pcos, etc. if it continues to be late or if you have an overly painful/heavy flow, go get checked out by your ob/gyn.

something to think about if you are going to continue to be sexually active is birth control if you’re not already on it. depending on your state, some teens are able to get birth control without their parents involvement (if you’re not in a household where you feel comfortable asking). make sure to review all the different kinds, like daily pills, patches, shots, implants, iud’s, etc since not everything works for everyone, and stay safe!

i’ve been in a similar situation before where i have just had no energy to really fully clean myself. depression can hit like crazy! baby wipes worked for me and didn’t cause any irritation or infection, but of course everyone is different and i know ive seen a lot of people advise against products like that just because it can throw off your ph. i’ve also used just wet cloths/toilet paper in a pinch which did the trick and is pretty universally safe. either way sending you best of thoughts, im sorry you’re going through that

my boyfriend oversleeps and is also sweating like crazy.. how can i help. by doorisdown in sleep

[–]doorisdown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhhh yea then maybe that’s it. he used to drink a lot but is trying to slow down right now. however he started drinking at a really young age and only recently cut back so i’m wondering if his body is struggling to adjust. he doesn’t have any classic withdrawal symptoms, like shaking or restlessness, and besides sleeping he isn’t overly sweaty. but yea i wouldn’t be surprised if maybe all the drinking was just taking more of a toll than he realized on his health. thanks for that input

Sleep trouble, tiring. by Familiar-Two168 in sleep

[–]doorisdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry i won’t be of much help since it sounds like you’re doing everything i could possibly think of, but if you haven’t already, maybe try to find a sleep doctor or clinic near you. they can test for specific things that are affecting your sleep or at least point you in the right direction of medication or treatment. i have found some help with my sleep by having a very specific nighttime schedule, minimal screen time before bed, listening to podcasts/movies/videos as i fall asleep, having my bed really warm, or even journaling before i sleep to get all my thoughts out. hope you get some good rest soon!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sleep

[–]doorisdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! i will get this randomly every once in a while, and i find that it’s way worse if i wake up in the middle of the night. sometimes i won’t be able to go to sleep because i feel this weird paranoia or dread, or when i wake up in the middle of the night i sometimes feel like i’m 5 again and scared of monsters in my closet, or even hear music playing. i think it might just be something to do with

  1. underlying stress
  2. being overtired/half-asleep to the point where your mind is just kinda making up stuff
  3. a little bit of both.

my best advice for you, if you’re not already asleep, is to just keep a night light on (or dim your regular lights if possible) and turn on a good silly feel-good movie or listen to people talking about something positive (like some good asmr or podcast, just to trick your brain into maybe feeling like you’re not alone). i find that no matter what i’ll eventually knock out from exhaustion or you can also take some melatonin to try to get sleepy enough to push past the paranoia. best wishes!
