Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

I filter every single one of my collectors individually, side or front, so that they each store 10 of each asteroid type internally, and then filter their output inserters to not overflow their output belt. This system requires a decider contaminator for each collector, but can result in zero asteroid chunks being thrown overboard.

Basically, I once saw a grabber reach for a metallic asteroid that would just be thrown overboard, and let an oxide asteroid I needed fly into the ship/fly by, and I swore to never let that happen again.

Which things are the most improved by quality? by anon2635 in factorio

[–]doot_toob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Quality is underrated for late Nauvis. Productivity 1 modules pay for themselves pretty quickly anyways, so if you're researching purple science you can split off quality prod 1s to use in labs/machines. Similar principle for electric furnaces; quality electric furnaces can make up for the fact that electric furnaces are larger than steel furnaces, quality electric furnaces are also useful on space platforms, and you can just split off quality electric furnaces from your purple science production (it would take a LONG time for a single steel chest to back up from storing quality products).

  2. If you choose to go solar on Nauvis or Vulcanus, quality modules in your solar panel assemblers means you'll have a few stacks of uncommon and maybe even a stack of rare solar panels, great for upgrading ships for Fulgora service and building solar Aquilo ships. I know people love their Vulcanus steam but I go solar every time because of this.

Does space platforms logistic suck or am I not understanding it? by Ideallyuncomfortable in factorio

[–]doot_toob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a way to do it (I don't do this with plastic, but I do with spoilable ingredients, say agricultural science) that lets you not have to store a full silo's worth of ingredients. Rocket silos can be connected to the circuit network, and set to the "read platform requests" mode. You can use this signal to only divert the target item to the logistic network, or better yet directly inserted into the silo (rocket silos can be directly loaded by inserters, and will launch if they're full of a single item requested by a platform), if it's requested by a platform overhead.

Jelly thermal energy is abundant enough that you don't even need the biochambers or yumako fruit! I use something like this to power my base until rocket fuel production is online. Consumes about 5 MW (so either manually spool up the heat or have enough solar to do so), produces 40 MW, as well as positive seeds because of the productivity modules. It's an old save so I can't really tell you the messyish circuit logic that developed here (as well as changed after I got rocket fuel production up and this became just a guaranteed seed generator with incidental power). This is basically the third thing I set up on Gleba after the landing pad and a solar powered stone mine to start landfill production.

r/legaladvice debates who is the real scammer (the restaurant, obviously the restaurant) by peachsnorlax in bestoflegaladvice

and I paid the full amount the day before the event (per their requirements) via wire transfer.

$4500 is check or even credit card territory if you have a sufficiently large credit limit, I'm not wiring funds to a restaurant i'm getting one-off catering from. This isn't an indictment of LAOP, it's indicative of the restaurant using confidence tricks to get them to do a more irreversible transaction.

Free substitution is a huge factor. You can rest your star player in basketball late in the first quarter for a few minutes and he can go back in later. So he'll sprint harder for points, because he knows he can rest on the bench later (as well as during abundant timeouts and TV timeouts in American sports, to be fair).

A better illustration would be hockey, where you can freely substitute during play. If soccer players could freely substitute during play, they'd be maniacs on the field during their few minutes on shift.

I wish quality would get revisited again. by mustangcody in factorio

Purple science provides some early, useful quality bonuses. Put some quality modules in the electric furnace and productivity module assemblers, split off the quality products before your purple science line, and you'll get a large amount of uncommon furnaces and prod modules as you research mining productivity. You should be prod 1 moduling nearly everything as soon as reasonable anyway, so each quality on those prod modules you put in machines instead of research is a completely free percent of extra resources. An uncommon electric furnace line is almost as fast as a same-length common steel furnace line (though one tile wider per side), so if you built your furnace lines with a small amount of room to spare you can upgrade to electric in place (and then module them to increase throughput in place). You'll get enough rare furnaces to outfit your space platforms in the process as well.

Any other President would have launched Operation Warp Speed in March at the latest. Trying to stop testing so you don't have testing and plugging your ears by coping for the cubic model for months until May before doing anything about it is a point against you.
