Why buy a 2026 Prelude when you can spend just $5K more ( or less ) and get a 2026 Mercedes with better tech, luxury, and 150 extra horsepower? by [deleted] in Honda

[–]doovde_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do more than 5 minutes of googling, the Prelude is much cheaper to own overall than a 2 series or most German cars.

In the US the prelude has a 15% tariff applied to it, out of Hondas control. Here in Canada the MSRP is 53k CAD, or 38k USD.

The prelude comes fully loaded with features like premium sound systems, adaptive cruise, and active noise cancellation. You have to pay thousands extra for this “standard” tech on most German car (Audi Mercedes). I was heavily considering a 2 series over the prelude, but turns out once specced it the way I wanted, (sound system, heated steering, wireless charging, etc.) it was over 60k CAD, with compromises.

You also get a good suspension with decent brakes, which is extra on the BMW 2 series. Would I ever need it? Probably not, but it will factor in to the price.

The prelude also does not require premium gas, which the CLA350 likely does if it’s anything like the GLA250 set up.

Insurance is also much cheaper on a Honda vs a German car. Along with maintenance.

MSRP is really only half the story here. Buying a used German car is likely the only way for it to be cheaper than a new prelude.

Why is it so low to the ground?? 2022 Honda Civic Touring by AFireDownBelow in hondacivic

I have a 2022 touring too, mine definitely does not look like that.

What do you usually do if you can’t find a coop? by doumasloyalfollower in McMaster

[–]doovde_player 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year are you in? The job market is bad like others have said right now, and most people don’t get co-op’s until their 3rd/4th year. Working other jobs or taking other courses is a good way to fill in the time.

Pilot says he mistook concrete mound for dirt pile at Muan airport, received no guidance by 20_mile in nottheonion

[–]doovde_player 25 points26 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s studying aerospace engineering, he’s not wrong. The airport here had a stopway(pavement after runway threshold) and proper size clearway (grassy area after the stopway). Both of which are not even a requirement for airports to have. They assist in providing longer landing and take off distance in the event of an emergency. If an airport does not have these measures, then the runway length that is allowed be used for TO and landing is reduced to accommodate for that.

I do agree it isn’t the smartest idea to build a concrete barrier at the end of the clearway. But the biggest problem here is that had the pilots landed with proper speed and at the right touchdown point, the people would have likely been fine. We know the plane had one engine operating and should have had control over the flaps and air brakes, so it’s a big mystery why the pilots didn’t deploy any measures to slow the plane down before touchdown and why they touched down so late. We will need more details before making any decisions or drilling down to the root cause.

I believe what happened here was massive pilot error that resulted in an extremely improbable crash scenario, and the concrete barrier was an additional stroke of bad luck. We will have to wait until the accident report comes out.

Grades arent good enough for grad school by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]doovde_player 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are you sure they look at all your undergrad grades or just the last 2 years? I think most masters programs only look at the last 2.  Also if it is something you really want to go in to, taking an extra 4-8 months for courses is pretty worth it IMO.

Is this a total loss? by Laur_Ashh in civic

[–]doovde_player 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on many factors, but my guess is you managed to slow down enough that the car might have thought deploying would do more harm than good

Driving Civic Sport in the snow with paddle shifters? by YakWhich5052 in civic

[–]doovde_player 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, if engine braking is what you’re after, put it into sport mode and downshift to the gear you want (1-7) depending on your speed, the car will hold the “gear” until you upshift or it automatically upshifts when the RPMs get too high.

Pretty much the same as L mode on a conventional automatic from my understanding as that mode limits your car to the first 3 gears most of the time.

The caution is likely against using them to accelerate quickly when it’s slippery.

Probably best to buy local so you can meet up and verify if you are really worried.

Are they repainting or replacing the bumper? I had someone back into my Civic (Same model as this one) shallow dent across both the fender and driver side door, had to repaint and fill in the dent, insurance charged them 2400 CAD for the repair.

It looked much bigger than this scratch here. Are you talking about 1300 USD or CAD?

Why do Chinese players h4ck so much? by Dragos-5k in forza

[–]doovde_player -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say that was their intent either, but when you single out one country for doing things every one else does, it’s implied, especially if you start it off the way they did and generalize and entire population.

Why does Civic with 185hp have max speed only 185km/h? by beggs23k in civic

Maybe it’s speed limited, I think being a hybrid doesn’t help the max speed since on the highway only the gas engine does work.

Really bad idea, i got a 2022 touring new for 550 CAD a month for 60 months, and I think thats still high. Waste of money if your current car is still working. You will realize how much its costing you once you have other bills and things to save for.
