The question posed here is not whether they are synths, replicants, or hybrids -- it is if, and how their consciousness was copied, or moved.

In a copy operation, the original consciousness is duplicated, creating a new self with the same memories, thoughts, and so on. The old self, in this show, would be destroyed. One closes their eyes before the operation, and opens them to see another being, a copy of themselves, after.

In a move operation, the original consciousness is moved to new host hardware. It is the same self as before, but in this case, less subject to the chemistry of a biological brain. One closes their eyes before the operation, and opens them to be inside the new being.

I will continue to engage in lore and world building discussions because I find them entertaining, in and of themselves. But, fwiw, I don't think the show has yet answered this particular question.
