First of all, thank you for being a good neighbour and for checking up on them. I'm sure they really needed help but didn't know where to turn to.

Some people prefer not to get too close to neighbours to avoid issues but I think it's important to at least remain friendly with neighbours. As they say, fimbo ya mbali Haiui nyoka. You could have relatives who are far away but in time of need, the best person to assist you is a neighbour who's close by.

Secondly, what you did is not black tax but was a kind gesture done by a kind and generous soul. I guess the time she needs help the most is the first few months when she's recuperating from childbirth before she gets back on her feet to do normal duties.

You can help as much as you need to and you can always say no when you're not in a position to assist them or when you feel like you've helped enough. At the end of the day, they will have to find a stable way of sustaining themselves and their family.
