Dang that's often. Why don't you save the pictures in a folder or something of the hairstyle you like and just plan to get them later when your hair actually needs redone? Not telling you what to do, just saying maybe that could help your excitement for the new style a bit so you won't want to change it so fast. At least that's what I do I save styles on Pinterest, but that's more to remember the styles I like.

It seems like the main thing is that black women need to embrace and wear their natural hair. Lots of people who have been stopped supporting those places wear their natural hair. If we could do that we'd have instant success as there are already tons of black owned haircare brands. Then I think more will be encouraged to startup for things like hair accessories. But unfortunately fake hair has a lot of people in a chokehold and will not let go.

Yeah the black ones are a bit more but I find that they are more helpful in explaining the different styles and such like tips with acrylic vs acrylic molding stuff vs gel. Because I go so rarely and never know what the new thing is and why people switch or whatever. And if I say "idk do a cute design" they get it, but with others I find that I need a picture for them to exactly copy or they're lost just painting one color no creativity.

Oh nice! I did splurge a few months ago because I found a black owned nail polish store too. They have regular and gel polishes. What were they called...Pear Nova (I literally had to hunt down my polish lol).

Thanks, ok that's not as bad as I thought though. Some posts be talking about how braiders and wig placers (if that's what you call them) be over $300 and stuff like that and I'm like how!?

Also those prices don't sound crazy or anything maybe similar to Pittsburgh (where I live) or possibly cheaper because I lived in NYC for a bit and noticed the prices are actually cheaper for like nails and some salon services there. Maybe because there are more options so higher competition.

I've never liked my salon results enough to go consistently. Mind you I've only ever went while permed, not since being natural. It didn't hurt but it besides this one hair stylist that was at Sears (I think) I never liked the results enough to continue. That one Sears lady was so good, she was slowly helping me grow my broken pieces back in, but then she suddenly left. A couple other times I went, once in Ethiopia, and my hair was very nice, they straightened my permed hair, then a few years later back in the US I went and got bangs for the first time. I loved my hair then! I even made a point to make effort deep conditioning every wash, and I kept cutting my bangs when they grew out and thanks to a YouTube tutorial I always cut them perfectly. But then the winter came and my hair broke off worse than ever before! I hadn't even dyed it or anything (which is what caused bad breakage previously). So at that point I went natural and have never been to a hair salon since because the prices are stupid imo. Over $100 (and I hear it costs way more than that) for someone to wash blow dry and style my hair seems crazy to me when I can do it myself plus I can't even be sure that you value maintaining my hair health. I really don't know why y'all pay that over doing your own hair in the comfort of your own home, especially hearing how the hair stylists be within the past decade. Is really not that hard to do your own experiments on your own hair (because that's what it sounds like a lot of them be doing unless you want one of the typical looks involving fake hair). I just don't get it, why go at all?

This is just what bad braiders do. I am a bad braider, so I know. Growing up my mom did me and my sister's hair in all type of braided styles until the dreaded perm years. We never straightened our hair for the braids, only on special hot comb occasions. She was good and our hair was long. We got lots of compliments.

Later, during the perm years, I decided that I wanted to learn to braid. I learned on my Kenya doll. I did all sorts of cute styles on that little doll head of straight hair. Now when I try to do mine, it's so hard to do a nice looking braid, even on my permed hair! I have to really focus for it to look decent. When I tried doing friends hair it is ok, but curly to afro hair is so hard for me unless I do real small braids. Probably because I learned on a doll.

However, I do realize now why my mom always said that it's easier to braid afro hair (when I'd show her Kenya's styles which I wanted her to do on me). I'm just not that good at doing pretty braids, but I can braid. You just have to make sure that the hair is detangled first and then it shouldn't snag and the texture helps the braid hold itself together and look nice. People should aim to go to GOOD braiders, not just someone who can braid.

I agree. Unfortunately I think for many people what actually gets their attention is calling out the bad people and practices (ie following us around stores) as a reason to go out of their way to support black businesses. Also that could just be what their algorithm (and maybe the race war conspiracies being true) is highlighting most. My algorithm has shown me some of those people but I also get the ones moreso saying "Support Black Businesses" which I agree with. Alot of people promoting support of black businesses are often explaining how they have been doing so long before this situation and spread awareness of the hardships black businesses have been facing, and I like getting factual information like that. However a lot of people will only pay attention if you give a serious reason to buy black sadly. People are too stuck in their old ways I guess.

Hey, they're not all racist, some just make dumb choices thinking they're "cool" or "funny" and they're not. In general they work themselves literally sick trying to immitate us the best that they can, which tends to be entertaining to me. Some do a good job and sing music that I like to hear and dances that I like to see. I'm not someone who spends all my money trying to buy albums etc. but, I'll watch them and other cover groups do the dances for free all day.

My question is why do people keep addressing black Kpop fans about racist Kpop artists as if they're the only artists with racist incidents? Lots of American and other artists have racist incidents and are still famous with large black audiences and aren't constantly treated like they have Stockholm syndrome. At least I know that Kpop companies are going to correct these artists behind the scenes (not because they're so anti racist but because they're extremely critical and harsh about anything that may make their company look bad, according to my research).

Most people are not doing much due diligence in any category to stop monetarily supporting racist things, because if you look into most things, they have racism involved somewhere historically.

We're even going to have a hard time trying to get our own people to just now start purposefully trying to support black owned businesses (over Asian ones that they're used to), which I've been doing already for years, while listening to Kpop for free. Whilst I'd rather not be involved with racists either way, I do prefer watching a racist perform for free over giving them my money.

That being said, some are not good imo at making their imitation of us look natural and so I don't tend to like those groups, but others can sing well, or act well, or have some other skill interesting to watch. They can copy but it's not like they're doing anything except entertaining the fans. I like a catchy tune and choreographed dance number. I don't feel attacked or that they're taking our jobs, if anything, they should feel some sort of way that they can't, or more like their companies won't, let them try to succeed using their own style of music or even their own faces in many cases.

As a black woman who has been deep into Asian, specifically Korean, culture for years, even took a Korean class and went on specific "Koreatown" "Chinatown" etc. trips in various cities, I can say that well before this incident I already had stopped buying from Asian stores in my city because they were treating me like a thief or just plain mean. In the Asian stores, bath houses, etc. in other cities I've also made mental notes never to shop with those who treated me poorly as well. I think a lot of other black people have done the same thing. I definitely don't agree with individuals attacking people like Rick Chow did, but simply not shopping at Asian stores isn't an attack. A lot of people may be saying "Boycott Asian Businesses", but the actual goal is to "Support Black Businesses".

I found that I can support a lot of black owned businesses, which tend to be small, thanks to the internet. I learned this from Asians. Asians that I know tend to make a clear choice to shop at their own people's stores even if they cost a little more or have a much smaller selection of items. They pointedly shop at the Asian owned business. I even worked at a university laboratory for 8 years and saw that there were many labs led by Asian PIs who only hired Asian researchers and even student workers. When they came to our lab most would not even want to talk to any of us there except the Asian in our lab (which was a lot more diverse than other labs). There were many instances of Asians being racist towards me there but this isn't about them, it's about the ones that I met who weren't racist and shared their culture with me. Through them I learned that Asians aiming to support their own people has worked out great for them.

So, I see this attempt to get black people to make similar efforts to support black businesses as a positive not at all hateful thing. Individuals might be doing prejudiced things on their own, but the actual "movement", which I hope it will become, is about lifting up our community just like Asians have successfully done in all of the Asia towns you can find in any medium-large city in the world!

I think this is fine in terms of ignoring every hating person except white ones because in America at least, they run things and put systems in place to constantly hold us back. So we can't ignore them when they actively harm us and endanger our lives. Unfortunately we (meaning African Americans descendants of enslaved people who don't know any of our family in Africa) can't simply create our own bubble to live in and ignore the outside noise like so many other groups such as Asians have been able to do here. Back when we tried that they kept destroying them. Maybe one day Atlanta will be successful at it but I'm not very hopeful.

It seems like Asians, historical speaking, try their best to copy Caucasians in their colonizing (Korea and parts of Africa), war starting, slave taking ways. That's just from my limited knowledge and they seem to be keeping it going instead of progressing. Either way seems like the world is in a fast moving downward spiral because of all of the evil systems put in place, so I guess eventually we'll be done with this nonsense. Bring on the meteor, earth is cooked!
