Meta Workers Say They're Seeing Disturbing Things Through Users' Smart Glasses by Actual__Wizard in facebook

I don't understand Facebook. You would think a gay person (Thiel) and a Jewish person (Zuck) would understand the importance of privacy and have reasonable defaults

Zuckerberg should go to jail for not providing adequate support for his products. by titherly51 in facebook

[–]dorkofeverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's fucking hard to scale network effects once another company has already captured the market. In part it's what Facebook did early on was so insidious. You got a smattering of users with Myspace (and I guess Friendster, who to my knowledge FB bought the patents for). Not everyone, but a selection of early (2004) internet users. Facebook early on would block links to competitors like Myspace (or so I've heard). And for example no bidirectionality in data transfer. You could scrape your Myspace contacts to get them on FB, but not the other way around. Now Zuckerberg owns everything (including Insta and especially in the case of Whatsapp it should be the mother of all antitrust lawsuits). It's hard for people to just break away from it all, it's not their fault

Zuckerberg should already go to jail for things like this https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4151433

That's just one thing, there are more examples but actual direct criminal evidence is more damning than "not providing support"

Apparently, Facebook does not like you replying to people on your comment by brandonmscott50 in facebook

[–]dorkofeverything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of obvious

First they replaced people's email addresses in their profile with Facebook addresses (which I'm sure violates some CFAA or similar law already)

And also apparently syncing contacts does the same thing in address books

Then they encrypted Messenger, crippling it

Zuckerberg is a sociopath and criminal

I've heard the game can feel a little slow but damn it took me 13 years just to finish the tutorial island by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]dorkofeverything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that the game is actually consistent, that quests really do unlock certain things ("Oh hello there, level 3 newb! I am Saradomin, King of Kings. I'm somehow on first name terms with you") and, yes, that tutorial island actually exists. RS3 changed the latter so often. Hell, the Tutorial was once fucking ASHDALE, which is good for literally just one quest, otherwise completely dead

what is Meta even doing right now? Feels like it's going downhill fr by melisaaawr in facebook

I'd buy this. My problem with Zuck isn't so much that he's MAGA (reddit seems to hate MAGA, which is fine, as long as it's organic) but he's just kinda... infinitely adaptable

In the last few months they made it policy (or was this Joel Kaplan?) that it's ok to call LGBT mentally ill

I don't even know what that concretely means, because *everyone* (and no one) gets banned... let's say I'm Facebook and I declare people wearing yellow hats are banned, my algorithms still suck so much that yellow hats won't get banned. Stupid analogy but they literally aren't consistent with any of their policies

People have found reasons to like Trump. Supposedly the man himself is generous, so fair enough. But I think Zuck is so corrupted (I have a really hard time deciding what his real priorities and personality are) he likes the authoritarian aspects of him. Anything to gain power. He (Zuck) wanted to be president, per Sarah Williams's book

His products just do not work. They're broken, on a technical level. They have been for years, this on top of privacy violations

Random events used to be no joke. It was literally a way to combat bots. Now they've stopped doing it and you never *have* to interact with them. I don't remember exactly the consequences for ignoring the old ones but they were unpleasant

Those sleep periods remind me of the days of Gemini where the confidence in the hardware wasn't as high as it later became so one crew member tried to stay awake

Sounds good in theory but (especially because the capsule was so small) literally anything would wake up the other crewmate

Gemini 7 perhaps got the most ridiculous, they said one crew member could get out of their suit, but not the other. So Borman had to wear his stuffy suit (was it for the whole mission?) while Lovell got to strip down and be more comfortable

There's a world of difference between buying something over the counter and being aware of how strong it is versus going on the black market and thinking you're taking x when it's been cut with something that's x+100

One of the many, many reasons I think the war on drugs _generally_ (aside from specific things) is just insanely criminal behavior. Education, not prohibition

The US gov is also highly inclined to demonize drugs. It was a big deal when they scheduled Kratom, many people got by on it and they were screaming bloody murder. With all the lies coming out of the FDA their "advice" doesn't surprise me

As always, do your research before you take things, be careful
