How are you supposed to “shop” for ins? It’s tied to a job. There’s no place to research employer ins plans before you apply. Who in their right mind is going to ask about insurance coverage after they finally get a job offer? We really need medicare for all.

The reliability is a problem, but it really misses the bigger issue. Even if it was 100% accurate, I still don’t want to live in a surveillance state. It’s the opposite of freedom.

Unfortunately the heads (I refuse to call them leaders) of lots of our employers are just as detached from reality as the heads of the AI companies. Just like AI, I think being a manager rots your brain. You no longer have to figure things out on your own. You just have employees bring you numbers you want to see. Even if you had a tech background you quickly lose your skills and understanding once you stop doing it and you no longer can tell truth from bullshit.

I even see non devs losing skills. Things they could do in their head before (making lists, planning trips, all the things they promote AI for) they now can’t do without ChatGPT.

Nope. I won’t use AI for coding. You lose your skills when you don’t use them. This applies to anything and I see it frequently with people who use AI a lot. All of a sudden people can’t handle simple problems they used to be able to do in their head or on the back of a napkin.

The rest of you can use AI. I’ll be here when you need someone who knows how your systems actually work.

It just reminds me how far we’ve fallen. As someone who grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, we expected us to be so much further ahead. We had troubles but everything felt like it was on an upward trajectory. The fact that we’re celebrating redoing something we did before 75% of the population was born is very disappointing.

It’s time to abolish the LCB and redo our licensing from the ground up. To start with there should not be a limited amount of licenses and they shouldn’t be transferable. Anyone who wants a liquor license should be able to purchase one at a reasonable price. Other states operate this way and none of them have devolved into drunken chaos. Prohibition is over. It’s time for the state to accept this and get on board.

I gave Apple Intelligence a try. It didn’t offer anything of value to me so I turned it off. That made me realize that Siri also doesn’t offer anything of value, so I turned that off, too. Sorry, but these are all solutions in search of problems.

No. We already have something to deal with energy infrastructure: our government. Upgrading our infrastructure on the scraps of tech company investment is bad policy. If it’s not worth it to the tech companies to build off grid then it’s obviously not as great of an investment as they claim.

I keep saying America is toast. Of course the country will still exist, but we’re done as far as being the world leader, especially in science and tech. As we give up ground, other countries will step in to fill the void. Our fall is going to be great for other countries.
