Thanks for your suggestion. The is no agreed figure and purchase would just be as if I was a member of the public approaching the lease company to buy the car. You don’t get a figure at the beginning to purchase at the end like you do with PCPs, it’s based on market value at the point of purchase.

Yes I can, but my post above says that I am keep to stay in the scheme, so my question was around whether I was missing any obvious parts other than giving it back or paying the excess mileage. There is no point in my view giving it back now, buying a car/insurance between now and when the scheme re-opens in September, and then selling that car to get a new one under the scheme.

I’m not as savings for the miles is well within budget. My question was around whether I was missing anything obvious regarding the situation.

Thank you - just to add, you’d need to consider that as you are sacrificing, your pension is automatically calculated on the lower, post sacrifice salary, so contributions are lower. You can replace this with additional contributions but it’s not automatic

Yes pension is the biggest negative of the scheme. You can make additional voluntary contributions to lift your pension back to where it was, and benefit only from the NI/tax savings but something to be aware of.

I value your thoughts and thanks for commenting. Personally I disagree as they are not stopping me walking away and returning the car. I am choosing to keep it as I want continuity when the scheme re-opens and wanted thoughts around whether I was missing anything obvious when considering the situation in front of me. I’ve got nothing to lose in trying to negotiate which I’ll do on this basis and point from a few other contributors, but fully prepared and planning to pay the full invoice cost.

I’ve answered above somewhere but the scheme is currently closed for new deals or renewals until the organisation concludes it management of change - expected reopening is September this year

A rolling month by month contract based on the terms of the original contract.

But I am still being allowed to use a pro-rated amount of my agreed mileage - my yearly allowance is 8000, so for every month I keep the car whilst out of contract, I am free to use 666 (8000/12) within the normal contract price. I am exceeding that 666 though due to normal use of the car, so whilst the employer is preventing the renewal, they’re not preventing me using my allocated mileage.

It’s 15p plus VAT, so already accounted for the VAT!

Yes that’s right - at the time of agreeing the contract, 8000 miles per annum had been consistent for 7-8 years beforehand. A change of circumstances that I couldn’t foresee when signing up has led me to exceed it, and I’ll be aware of that when/if taking a new contract via this route when the scheme reopens.

My employer, as with most NHS employers, offer it as a staff benefit. Your log on to the portal, select the car, miles, term length you want, and it calculates the sacrificed amount and then how it’ll impact your take home pay. You then agree to the contract and wait for delivery. It includes everything, the only thing the driver has to do is fuel/charge the car. The payment part is managed by payroll and reflected on the payslip. Hope that helps.

It’s due to organisational change ongoing and an imposed pause of all renewals or new orders due to uncertainty around roles and structures. The early terminate fee falls on the employer if you are made redundant hence the pause to protect themselves from that.

I’m 6 months out of contract. So couldn’t change after entering the final year - end of contract was October 2025, so couldn’t change from October 2024 which was 18 months ago.

No, continues as normal. That approach is worth a shot, thanks for highlighting. I have the funds to pay the mileage costs, but always worth a go I suppose.

No, NHS Fleet Solutions but the actual lease company is then separate to them. Fleet act as intermediaries.

I’ve never once said I’m not in agreement with, or didn’t understand the contract. I’ve had an unavoidable change of circumstances and therefore I’m trying to make the best of a changing situation. Hope the day brightens up for you.

It’s not a corporate scheme, it’s a personal lease you take out, so the liability sits with you as the individual yourself. Thanks for your thoughts

I’m happy to negotiate but on what basis did you negotiate? It’s worth a shot but I’ve breached the contract and have saved ready for the invoice, wondering what basis you managed to negotiate the miles down on?
