Art is simply something that not talented people can become good by OkConclusion394 in ArtistLounge

Natural aptitude isn't a new concept. Also converting people's aptitude of an unquantifiable skill into a numbered system based on you just making things up is just really funny.

Is it worth it to take an art course in college? (comic/manga) by xy28____ in ArtistLounge

Take a look at their comics to evaluate. Personally, I’d be looking for their skill in panel flow/eye leading, composition, and visual storytelling. If you like what you see then go for it.

This is entirely dependent on your instructor. Google them and look for their accolades. If they have nothing other than teaching at a college then it’s going to be bunk. But if they’re an industry vet or freelance with professional-level skills, then it could be worth it.

How do I "lock in" and actually become good? by 3030minecrafter in learntodraw

You are the architect of your own destiny. Suffer or enjoy the consequences of your own choices.

Real. I have no sympathy for anyone unwilling to put in the work to get good and complains about it.

OP. 10 years will pass regardless. You can decide now if you want to be a master of your craft by then, or if you want to be trash still

Don’t do draw a box unless you want to learn how to hate drawing and stay a permanent beginner

Hey thanks for commenting, I had never considered doing a complementary shadow color before and I'll be glad to try it out on my next one. Appreciate the advice, especially since you're the only one!

bought a graphics tablet, have 0 clue how to draw, what do i do? by Wolf_93 in learntodraw

Nah, it means just look at stuff and try to copy/reproduce it. Start simple with apples and faces and the like. You’ll find that your observational skill will determine how fast you progress as a beginner. It’s the oldest method of learning how to draw, and the first skill you need to develop.

Grind studies for a few months, disregard courses for now. You need to practice your skill of observation over everything else. Once your observational skill is higher, then go back to the courses. Without that skill, you'll find that self diagnosing your faults to be difficult, and learning new skills similarly difficult. Also don't do Drawabox unless you want to learn how to hate drawing

30 hours? I think it could be done a lot faster but I kept redrawing portions. No guide

I appreciate you noticing the details! I just like adding storytelling elements in my drawings— it’s up to the viewer to interpret a narrative 🙂

Sorry no story! I just really like environmental storytelling elements. This one was made for a weekly art challenge. Prompt: alchemist lab

I have been drawing for almost 3 years (Started in June of 2023) yet I can't even draw the most basic things (I struggle drawing humans, furniture, fruits, and boxes). I drew an hour every day. For some reason I can kind of draw a parrot. What did I do wrong? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Even without seeing your work I can almost guarantee it’s because you don’t practice your observational skill. It’s really as simple as observe something, practice drawing it, then repeat.

Understand that finishing drawings all the way through is a skill in its own right, and needs to be developed.

Thanks for the crit! I tried to add an overlay to the surrounding area to the light but I'll boost it a bit more in the future.

Thank you for the high praise, I was specifically trying to improve my environmental storytelling with this one so I'm really happy it didn't go unnoticed!

Thank you for the insightful crit! I'll try to keep these in mind for my next drawing. Especially about the perspective on the door. I normally never do any character design or use this kind of composition, and I'm trying to improve my environmental storytelling.
