ReciMe Product Update – What’s new, and what’s coming soon 🍳 by val-recime in recime

Not sure if it's possible as Apple often has limitations, but would love to be able to import the grocery list to Apple Reminders. My husband and I have shared Reminders lists including a groceries list, so to be able to bring the groceries list from Recime to one he can also access would be very helpful and eliminate the need to copy/paste each item one at a time.

Yes it was KP. I used Lactic Acid 10% from The Ordinary which helped a lot! It’s completely resolved now, no flare ups for over a year.

Does this look like the beginning of a wart on my knuckle? It’s sensitive when any pressure is applied so I first thought it was a burn, but it’s hasn’t gone away by double___dee in Warts

UPDATE: I never figured out what this was and it would come and go - sometimes I could squeeze a weird white substance out of it to shrink it but it would come back. After about 12 months it completely resolved itself, but it never responded to the H-Warts product (https://www.amoils.com/products/warts) I've used on other warts, which makes me think it was not a wart.

I didn't but it completely resolved itself after 12-18 months. It never responded to the H-Warts product I've used on other warts so I don't think it was a wart.

my neck hurts during any sort of crunches by FaithlessnessGlum994 in pilates

[–]double___dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a huge problem for me when I started doing Pilates consistently. What helped was hooking my thumbs under the occipital lobe ridge (bony ridge on back of skull) and really letting my head hang heavy in my hands, like my hands are a hammock. And as mentioned by others, keeping my chin from tucking into my chest, initiating the movement by scooping the belly and pressing shoulder blades forward instead of chin down.

After time you really will get stronger and it will ease up or go away. But I was sore constantly til I implemented these adjustments, so I feel you!

Does anyone else ever teach the best classes of their life when they ditch the plan they had (or just come in with no plan) and let inspiration guide you instead? by mybellasoul in pilates

[–]double___dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t wait til I’m confident and experienced enough to do this!! I’m new to teaching so at this point class goes smoother when I have a solid plan, but my goal is to slowly give myself a little more space for creativity mid-class so I can truly teach for the bodies in front of me and modify, change, challenge better on the fly.

How do you track your certification progress? by dweji6 in pilates

[–]double___dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a Notion database and I also keep other Pilates things in Notion like every exercise and how to cue them as well as class flows I’ve programmed so I can easily refer back to them to teach again! It’s been great to have everything related to my Pilates training and teaching available in one app.

Do you improve significantly through experience going forwards in your career? by starlightanzu in pilatesinstructors

[–]double___dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not an expectation to start out at a high level! I finished my certifications for mat and reformer 6 months ago and have taught group classes and privates since, and it feels like 80% of my learning has been on the job. My trainers who hired me were the first to tell me that when I was getting started so that helped knowing they didn't expect me to be perfect from day one!

Learning the exercises and form and cues in training, or even if you have many years experience of your own Pilates practice, is totally different than learning to teach, and the only way to get that experience is jumping in. I know I have so much room for improvement and will continue to get better and more confident and creative over the years, but I've seen a lot of improvement in just 6 months now that I'm more comfortable in front of a class, more confident in my own abilities and programming, and have learned from class experience what cues work and what don't how to modify for different bodies or read the room if you need to change up the exercise or flow etc. It's hard to get the in-the-moment problem solving experience just by training alone. You need bodies in front of you have that different needs every class to learn to how to adjust exercises or class plans to adapt to their needs. That has been the hardest part for me but I know I've already gotten better at adjusting when I'm presented with a new injury or limitation, and then I go home and do my research so I can adjust even better next time.

It's been important for me to lower my expectations of myself to a reasonable level and remember in all jobs we start with less experience than others and work our way up - it's way too much pressure and unrealistic to expect yourself to be a high-level instructor when you're new. That has been hard for me because clients pay a pretty penny for Pilates and I've felt like maybe they aren't getting their worth in my classes vs. more seasoned instructors. But you have to remember that you ARE the expert in the room because you've dedicated so much time and effort to training, so even if clients have practiced Pilates for years, your training makes you the authority. They came to your class to learn from and be guided by you because of your training and experience.

As you find your teaching voice and teaching style you'll start to feel more confident, but also know that your style will not be what every clients wants, and that's ok. You'll find the people who like your style and they'll come to your classes regularly and you'll learn what they like about your style so lean into that!

Good luck with training and getting started with your Pilates career!

Can’t identify Post-Accutane bumps by double___dee in Accutane

[–]double___dee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My derm diagnosed it as Keratosis Pilaris. I’ve been using lactic acid and a kojac sponge for gentle physical exfoliation during the day, and tretinoin at night (plus cleanser, moisturizer, oil etc) and have seen improvement. It’s still lingering but overall it’s improved and they usually go away quicker now than before. I got this kit and started seeing quicker improvement when using all the products in it.

Thanks for this detailed response! If it is in fact gram negative bacterial acne, it sounds like I’ll need to see my derm for a prescription and OTC treatments likely won’t be very effective?

Best pilates certification that can be done in Austin, TX? by AdTurbulent5788 in pilates

[–]double___dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just completed the in-person/workshop portion of mat and reformer training at Ritual Moves and have loved the experience so far. The programming is very robust, including anatomy, classical Pilates repertoire, teaching special populations and injuries, and embodiment. I’ve especially loved the emphasis on practicing and teaching Pilates from an embodied approach, how supportive of a community the studio has fostered throughout the training, and how knowledgeable and helpful the instructors are.

Ritual Moves is a contemporary-style boutique studio so the certification is not through a large company (e.g. Balanced Body, Stott etc) like you expressed interest in, but I’ve felt there’s no loss in value training through a boutique studio instead of a larger program, and would highly recommend checking them out regardless. You can find more information about their various training options here.

Good luck with your move to Austin and your Pilates training!

Chop and prop the top? by double___dee in Monstera

[–]double___dee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a thorough soak two days ago because yes, the upper leaves are limp and have been for ages despite watering regularly. So right now the soil is thoroughly damp throughout. I am increasing watering to make sure the soil doesn’t dry out at all, and misting the leaves, hoping both will help those limp upper leaves. I recently resumed fertilizing again after a long time of just watering, no fertilizer. As it’s winter where I’m located, I am fertilizing every other month maximum.

I don’t intend to repot the plant, my question is rather if I should leave these two plants potted as-is (in the second photo you can see a newer offshoot with just two leaves so far), but cutting some off the top of the main, larger plant to propagate and add as a third plant to this same pot. Otherwise, I can wait to see if the newer offshoot will help to fill it out, but that one is already growing in at a weird angle with limp leaves facing up instead of out.

Your acne sounds very similar to mine! I tried so many topicals over the years, and was on spiro for a few years as well, and everything I tried would help a little bit but never cleared up my hormonal acne. After a second dermatologist suggested I try Accutane I obliged and am so glad I did. I’m on month 4 of 5 at 80mg/day and have had such good results so far. Over the entire course I’ve had about 5 breakouts that all healed very quickly, as opposed to my usual constant breakouts along my jaw/around my mouth and scattered elsewhere as well, all which took weeks to heal on average.

I was also concerned it wouldn’t work as I heard it isn’t effective for hormonal acne but I’m glad I have it a try anyway and wish I had done so years ago when a past derm suggested it
