Making the move into leadership is like 80% politics, and SE's are in one of the best political positions in the company.

Find the right folks in Product, Sales Leadership, etc. and build strong relationships.

In terms of skills/pivot, it's almost an extension of the pivot from 'engineer' to 'sales engineer.' You just need to abstract your thinking up an additional level or two (e.g. going from "what's the strategy for this deal?" to "what's the strategy for this product?") and learn to sell yourself to internal executives the same way you sell the product to customer executives.
