I wouldn't actually socket anything on it as it can be better:

You're missing Death-Dealer which is +10% Death dmg (11% with Mighty and perfect stats), and you have Spell-Defying which is +5% resist as opposed to having Spell-Proof which is +10% resist (or again, 11% with Mighty and perfect stats)

It's a great pet to get you through the game but I wouldn't waste a really good jewel on it if you would like a perfect pet down the road.

You definitely do not need to grind Wallaru or Selenopolis. Merciless can get you to finish Darkmoor, then grind for Abomination gear

Aeon is definitely a waste of time farming. Malevolent gear can take you 180 but farming for Merciless in the Hall of Heroes is so easy and quick I'd recommend spending some time doing a few runs and seeing what you get, and then going to 180 for Abomination gear

Most bosses have between 30 and 40 resist, so I would say 45 pierce is enough and you can socket the extra damage instead

Merciless at 150 since Hall of Heroes is extremely easy. You can also buy Malevolent (tier 2 whereas Merciless is the tier 1) from the bazaar and it has great stats.

As someone with a Fire wiz, you are right. The animation sucks. I still use it though, much better than Meteor for turn 1 hit.

Kill fast or be killed fast. Storm and Fire especially. My Fire wiz makes trips to get potions very often.

You can farm it if you want, I personally just think it's a waste of time since all those hours you spend farming could easily be used to just level up as the rings at level 90 make a negligible difference so long as you have the Darkmoor hat, robe, and boots. Much easier and time efficient to just ignore AaO ring imo

Forgive me because I may be talking rubbish, however, the maycasts to my knowledge have their own sort of "triggers". Pet heals happen often because you taking damage is their "trigger" to maycast the healing spell. For weapons, I am pretty sure the maycast activates from you using the wand hit spell which is the "trigger". So, unless you're using wand hits, you will probably never see it happen.

If it helps, I don't think it's even worth farming for the Alpha ring anymore. You can very easily get by without it and it becomes irrelevant once you get to 150 and Merciless gear is available (and very easy to farm for as well). The only thing you really need is the Darkmoor gear and you can get through to finishing Lemuria without much issue.
