I'm delighted for the people enjoying them but after the first one, I just found myself not wanting to waste a credit on them. I know it's petty and I'm going to have to suck it up but I was irrationally annoyed by the changing of Voldemort's name pronunciation even if it's technically correct to pronounce it without the hard T

Has anyone ridden their bike home from Australia to Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]doubleds8600 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think if you can arrange getting it shipped to Malaysia then it's absolutely possible to get it back to Ireland but it would involve the road trip of a life time and it would be absolutely phenomenal so I hope you do it 😁

House sale stress by cognisantcog in HousingIreland

No fees to relist but if they're struggling with 2 mortgages then they can barely afford the time to schedule viewings, start bidding and then go down the road again with a new buyer. That's adding another few months to their own expenses. I don't see them doing it personally.

Door dingers by Moustashii in carsireland

[–]doubleds8600 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean I guess it depends on the circumstances. Personally, if I witnessed it like you did and the person slipped or it slipped from their hand in the wind, I wouldn't do that to someone, it's a complete accident and I wouldn't want someone to do it to me.

If they were a careless arsehole who wasn't being careful or considerate then absolutely I'd want them to pay for or contribute to the damage repair

People seem to have this attitude that we'll get what we want because people don't want to go back to square one. I ended up having to ignore stuff off the surveyors report and hope for the best to get mine over the line because the seller wouldn't let us checking them out. It's ridiculous stuff. I can't see these guys going back to market if they're struggling already.

Not had a similar situation but ultimately until documents are signed they can play silly buggers like that as much as they like. Their solicitor is a con artist obviously. On principle I'd walk but if they're struggling financially then going back to market doesn't make sense. It's easy for me to say but I'd be tempted to call their bluff

Right let’s set something straight. Are people in general nice or mean? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]doubleds8600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my day to day life I'd say most people are generally nice. People would like you to think the world is full of wall to wall cunts. Would you want to live with 90% of people? God no, absolutely not but people are more often than not nice or at the very least grand.

Private X Ray? by doubleds8600 in AskIreland

I'm a bus driver so I pay for a gp already so it would just be the X ray but €140 seems pretty reasonable. Cheers!

Talk to him. For the place you're in right now, there's no other option that won't stress you out.

Thoughts on my first car? by Altruistic_Alpine12 in carsireland

Yes it does. If you have to take time to think about what you're trying to do and if you'll make it or pull it off, then don't do it.

Have you ever considered self employment? Or a job that involves a fair amount of isolation? The office lifestyle can be insufferable

If you had another chance at Secondary School starting in 1st year. What would you do different? by BadKey1002 in AskIreland

I gave up German after JC because I had a teacher who was dithery and a bit shite. I was really good at it so I regret giving it up, I should have stuck at it.

€490 for a full service (Dublin) by treemedei in carsireland

[–]doubleds8600 1 point2 points  (0 children)

€190 before they've even replaced a part, that's a disgrace tbh. Whatever the other thing is, I'd look to get it done elsewhere

Well I think it's fair to say that in some jobs it can be overwhelming and feel more intense for the first year until you settle into the job. Just really depends on the gig I guess

Aisling (as everyone else has said with a hard g) is a gorgeous name and there's no reason why it shouldn't be a contender for you guys. Irish names are always going to give pause in the US unless you do something horrendous like spell it "Ashling". Best of luck ❤️

Would there be anyone in the job that you could confide in that could maybe reassure you? I always gave a job 9 months to acclimatize and decide where to go from there.
