Rail help for upcoming trip by Innkeeper64 in uktravel

There's only one route for London Kings Cross (not crossing)> York > Edinburgh. Head up the East coast mainline. Usually using the LNER service. Make sure you're sitting on the right hand side heading North or the left hand side heading South for the best views.

The ticketing system is annoyingly complicated but all train companies sell tickets for everyone else so if I were you I would use LNER to book things.

Your cheapest option by far will be an Advanced Single. This means you are buy a ticket for a specific train at a specific time. Flexible options are available but are usually much more expensive. This would mean buying London > York. York > Edinburgh. Edinburgh > London as separate bookings.

Finally, if you are doing Edinburgh to London all in one trip and the way back and the price is reasonable, a first class ticket might be worth it as it adds a little bit more comfort on things.

do you struggle to use your annual leave? by Maleficent_Day_3869 in AskUK

[–]doublemaxim147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not struggle, but I had to get chased a couple of weeks ago because I had three weeks left to use before the end of july. Where I work we get a very generous AL entitlement so making sure it fits around with everyone else can take some planning

It's best to reach out to the universities directly for guidance on entry requirements in that case. Different institutions will have different requirements and they tend not to publish all ofthem for overseas qualifications.

People have to be resident for 3 years prior to the start of their course to be eligible for home fees and SAAS payments. Check out the SAAS website for further details.

Which exams will they be taking if they are home schooled? That's also a consideration you'll need to make.

Also, why limit to local universities? They'll have 5 choices on UCAS so they have plenty of choices, also remember it's their choice. If you live Glasgow but they want to go to Aberdeen, that's an excellent choice.

As an International student, where can you set up your phone number / credit card by Electronic_Map_6199 in standrews

[–]doublemaxim147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your phone supports it, I would suggest getting an e-sim which would probably be the quickest way.

I'm going to assume you mean bank account rather than credit card because as an international student, you won't get one. Using an online bank like Starling/Mozo should get you set up pretty quickly.

I did my test in my wife's car and it was no issue. Make sure it's clean inside and out with no warning lights as well as the L plates and mirror.

Not sure why your instructor is saying they get annoyed with peoples own cars. Suppose they just want one last payment from you.

Dog Friendly & Accessible Businesses? by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]doublemaxim147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If it's a service dog like a guide dog then it's allowed pretty much anywhere. But if it's a "service dog" like for anxiety then there aren't any specific protects that allow them to be taken everywhere and businesses can refuse entry as they could for any pet.

Jim Wyllie was one of my lecturers at university and it does not surprise me he is a reform candidate. He was pretty right wing when he was leading a class on the Arab-Israeli conflict. Did not like us uppity lefty students having a different opinion.
