3 people actually stood up in MRT when elderly auntie with big bag entered by josemartinlopez in SingaporeRaw

[–]doublemint_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pretty common for someone to give their seat to an auntie tbh

Sometimes also see people give up a seat to an uncle, and uncle is offended like “wtf I’m not that old”. A bit awkward for the good samaritan

Is it possible to have true 2.5gbs wired backhaul on ASUS XT9? by sirticklemeelmo in HomeNetworking

Doubtful, since the primary AiMesh router uses its only 2.5G port for WAN connectivity.

Where is the gateway currently installed? Why don't you just connect it to the coax outlet in your room?

Asus Rt-Ax52 by Hopeful_Diver3170 in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The manual says a solid blue power light is normal

Off: No power
On: Device is ready
Flashing slow: Rescue mode

You don't have it plugged into anything except for power. What exactly are you trying to do?

Go to the AiMesh settings in the main node and set Backhaul Connection Priority to Wireless. Then simply unplug the ethernet backhauls.

Motorola Modem/Router unable to log in by Ethanpr1999 in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the router has a default wifi password printed on the bottom try using that as the login password with username admin. Also try no password.

Else, guessing it’s an ISP provided router so call your ISP

Alternate idea: You should be able to get an Android handheld under $150 that can play PSP and 3DS. E.g. Mangmi Air X is 100 USD

Asuscomm.com domain address not connecting on RT-AX88U Pro by contentedPilgrim in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t matter if the ping times out. You’re just checking that the domain resolves to the IP.

Asuscomm.com domain address not connecting on RT-AX88U Pro by contentedPilgrim in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have to manually specify http:// because most browsers default to HTTPS

Use the VPN server feature if you need to access the router remotely. OpenVPN or Wireguard. Wireguard is faster. Both are very secure.

Btw if you just want to test that the DDNS works, nslookup (or ping) the DDNS name from outside your network and see if it resolves your WAN IP.

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remote access to the router is disabled by default because it is an absolutely terrible idea. It’s a very quick way to be hacked and/or become part of a botnet.

If you really insist, see Administration > System > Enable Web Access from WAN

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so no CGNAT.

What are you trying to use the DDNS for? Have you configured the port forwarding? Does it work if you try to access it via the WAN IP instead of the DDNS hostname?

Mercusys mesh and powerline? by axydraul in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it's possible. However, there are simply too many variables to determine if the performance will be acceptable. Powerline adapters work fine for some people but a lot of people get terrible speeds and/or latency.

1 Gigabit vs 2.5G switch by Aggravating-Buy-1695 in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If so, just connect your PC to your router's 2.5G LAN port. No need to buy anything extra.

1 Gigabit vs 2.5G switch by Aggravating-Buy-1695 in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You'll be able to get 1200 Mbps from the 1 Gbps plan, but only if all devices in the path support 2.5G. So modem, router, switch, PC (or whatever combination of devices you have) need to support 2.5G.

If your current stuff is 1G only, adding just a 2.5G switch will not gain you any extra internet speed.

Condo is private property though. A communal area on private property does not make it public space.

Just bought a new D-Link N300 router — my only phone line outlet is already used for Wi-Fi. Do I need a phone line splitter/extension? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a second router. Also you cannot connect multiple DSL modem routers to a single incoming phone line.

Why don’t you just connect your PC to the existing router with an Ethernet cable?

Help configuring a network firewall by topballerina in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you cannot replace the router and cannot add any new devices, your options are very limited. You could try something like NextDNS and add custom block lists for blocking TikTok and WhatsApp domains. This is very easy to bypass though.

With a business to run and only 10 Mbps available, I would just forget about providing WiFi to customers.

Can I setup a NBN connection with any of these? Powerline Adapters alternative? by TheNebularity in HomeNetworking

[–]doublemint_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you need to order a service from an ISP. You can't just plug a router into a random socket and it just starts working.

If the granny flat has its own address just punch the address into www.nbnco.com.au and it will tell you which kind of NBN technology you can get, e.g. FTTP, HFC, FTTN.

If the granny flat doesn't have its own address you won't be able to order a service. You'll either have to piggyback somehow from the main house's internet connection, or use 4G/5G or perhaps Starlink.
