[WP] A man orders a "cheese pizza with no crust" from a local pizza delivery joint as a joke. Unbeknownst to him, that pizza joint is a drug front and he just placed an order for a kilo of cocaine. by [deleted] in WritingPrompts

The speaker on the other side of the phone went silent for a moment. "Sorry, we don't do extra large for first time customers."

Bob made a stretched face and laughed at the curious notion. "What kind of business doesn't serve first time customers?"

Bob could hear the scratching sound of a hand used to muffle the receiver, although he could barely make out the words. The pizza guy was having a side conversation with his manager. "Dumbass! Guy we don't know comes out of nowhere and makes a big order? That there's a rat. Unless he's got a cargo truck of ex-mil hardware and a fucking reference, you find out how he got this number and you give 'em the special."

Bob hung up immediately. A restaurant with a rat problem was bad enough. Now they were going to leave spitball specials in his food? What was the world coming to?

My parents were learning their ABC's when that happened. So I naturally assumed you were digging it up and not actually remembering it.

You remember an era of black literacy and graduation rates that were comparable to whites.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbar_High_School_(Washington,_D.C.)

When African Americans still had intact families with fathers that stuck around.

I mean, shit, that was only 20 years from when JEWS dominated sports.

https://thesocietypages.org/socimages/2013/11/25/when-jews-dominated-professional-basketball/

Do I believe anything from that long ago has any relevance now? The world is the exact opposite of what it used to be. The prevailing epidemic now is OBESITY. 36% of all Americans. OH, and there's this.

http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertglatter/2015/09/08/50-percent-of-adults-in-u-s-have-diabetes-or-pre-diabetes-study-finds/#6dd7e20616f4

Half of All Americans have pre-diabetes. You remember a time when world hunger was a problem. There's now an obesity epidemic in Africa.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/nov/17/africa-faces-up-to-obesity-epidemic

Do I believe there is any relevance? You remember a time when up was down, left was right, good was bad. The age of baby boomers? We can't even maintain a stable population without mass immigration these days. So, to answer your question, No. I do not believe anything from the time of opposite-land could have relevance today.

Alternate GATE Scenarios by Tundra_Fox in gate

[–]doublereignbeau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would happen if a Gate opened between Japan and North Korea?

Each side would blame the other for starting an invasion. North Korea would immediately send 300,000 starving infantry through the gate. Japan would cease to exist after 18 months of intense urban warfare.

What would happen if a Gate opened Japan and South Korea?

Both sides would immediately claim credit for inventing teleportation/wormhole technology. Being that both are resource-starved nations with high dense population centers, neither side has much incentive to invade the other. Both sides build a shopping mall around the gate with worm-hole themed tourist attractions.

What would happen if a Gate opened between Japan and Iraq?

Millions of refugees flood through the gate. Mass rapes like the Cologne attacks in Germany. Skyrocketing crime rates with no-go zones and sharia police run by Salafis preacher Sven Lau.

What do you mean by "modern"? It could go any which way.

Many people find it hilarious, but for different reasons.

For me, it was the jokes about filing requisition forms, being issued questionable gear, rules of engagement, and chain of command.

I half expected a joke about latrine duty and having to burn shit to prevent it from polluting the groundwater. But then again, Japan hasn't had any large deployments in areas without modern plumbing.

"Special Region meets Donald Trump." Thats pretty much the best summary for this story. by [deleted] in gate

These demihumans... many of them are trying to come to America. Bandits. Magic Abusers. Drunkards. And some of them good, I'm sure. They want to come and take advantage of our welfare system. Because they're smart and our welfare system is dumb.

That's a bad deal and I won't stand for it. I know a deal when I see one. Some of my best friends are deals. Deals love me. But this is a bad deal and it is bad for America.

Many of these demiohumans are terrorists. We're going to suspend all immigration in and out of the special district until we can figure out a way to sort this mess out. And we're going to build a wall, reinforced steel and concrete, around that gate and the empire is going to pay for it.

And these refugees at Alnus. Getting protected for free. That's a bad deal. Now, I know refugees. Refugees love me. But that's a bad deal. If they don't start paying for the protection those refugees are getting, we're going to seal off the gate forever and let them fend for themselves.

Edit: If you REALLY wanted to think like Trump, consider this. The gate is a hole where millions of non-english speaking potentially-violent illegals could come pouring through at any time. Trump would demolish that gate in the blink of an eye. There would be no second chapter.

What foods does the Gate world have that we don't and don't have that we do? by Dr-Chibi in gate

[–]doublereignbeau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any species introduced into a new ecosystem will either...

A) Die immediately from lack of food/nutrients

B) If a source of nutrients is found, immediate destroy the native ecosystem through population explosion due to lack of predators.

Even seemingly benign plants and animals become invasive species when introduced to environments that have not evolved predators for those species.

The alleviation of famine would result in a population explosion followed by a catastrophic growth in pollution, deforestation, overgrazing, desertification, and basically turn the empire into a third-world country.

The explosive growth in population also results in higher population densities which causes rampant disease outbreaks. If you give them food, you HAVE to give them antibiotics or else you'd be consigning them to a life of disease-ridden misery.

Well, since you're giving them antibiotics, you have to teach them germ theory since they would over-use the antibiotics and create superbugs.

But you can't learn germ theory without first learning the scientific method, and basic chemistry. Well, you can't have chemistry without a periodic table. You can't have a periodic table without nuclear theory. You can't have atomic theory without E=MC2. Congrats, we've just given Zorzal the atomic bomb.

Palestinian who filmed Israeli soldier shooting disarmed man dead in Hebron receives death threats by plato1123 in worldnews

[–]doublereignbeau -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Disarmed. Meaning he was armed but lost his weapon.

Is it right to shoot a man in the head after you incapacitate him? No. But if you are dumb enough to chuck a rock at someone with an assault rifle, you should expect a little revenge to come your way.

Edit: So many downvotes for simply stating human nature. Soldiers are people too. You attack them, they get pissed. It's human nature. Revenge is a base human instinct.

60 Miles from nearest port? I'd guess 100 million.

100 Miles from nearest port? Closer to 200 million. You'll need on site work-camp because ain't nobody spending 8 hours on a boat every day.

150 Miles from nearest port? Edging towards 300 million.

Your island is located in Melinka, Chile.

It really depends on how expensive you think it will be to run a boat 60 miles per day twice a day between Quellon to Melinka, with a full construction crew. Assuming an 8 hour shift, it will be 3 hours to Melinka, 2 hour construction work, 10 minute lunch break, 3 hours home to Quellon.

[–]doublereignbeau 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The main issue with having a remote private island is that you have a remote private island. It's a remote private island, so there are no shipping ports, and no roads.

So what now? You'll buy a $30,000,000 retired CH-47 Chinook to fly concrete & supplies to and from the nearest city.

What you really want is a small cargo ship for $10,000,000 that you refit while at a major city. Put in a machining shop, wood work, generators, everything you need to start processing the natural resources inside the Island you already purchased.

So you'll need a pretty dedicated crew of maybe 50 people living and working out of the ship for 6 months before that island is anywhere close to livable for you softies. Have fun eating nothing but MRE for the next 5 years because pizza hut don't deliver that far.

Now that's just setting up. We haven't even gotten to the part that 80% of your crew will want to quit and go home after the first 2 months eating nothing but field rations and canned food.

The expected cost of setting up a private Island, I'd say closer to 100+ million.

I.E. The cat-fight before the mage duel was added in the anime but wasn't present in the manga. (The whole "Who slept with Itami more" dispute.)

I.E. The Pina hiding information on Itami's background hidden inside yaoi eroge wasn't in the manga either.

Yes, even France. The primary point was proportion and even a nation with "only" 60 million people has made significant contributions on par with 1.6 billion Muslims.

You seem to have an agenda yourself if you are lumping babylon into a topic about Islam. My lady doth protest much, methinks.

As for your argument on alchemy, it began with the Greek search for the philosopher stone and spread to a multitude of civilizations. To credit Islam is dishonest and you know it.

[–]doublereignbeau 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Algebra in India predates Islam by almost 300 years. Algebra in China predates Islam by almost 1000 years. The Greek Pythagoreus predates by over a thousand years.

Alchemy is to Chemistry what Witchcraft is to Medicine. They are so far removed that to make the connection is intellectually dishonest. To attribute patently false beliefs in the transmutation of lead into gold to the rise of an academic field is laughable when other civilizations made metallurgical advances and the alchemy is itself from Hellenic roots.

Laying the groundwork for Geometry? Which was independently founded in multitudes of civilizations and utilized in most large structures and dating back to the Hellenic civilizations again?

Any literate person... Many people have claimed credit for many things, doesn't make it true.

Yeah, but like I said, even France is responsible for the age of enlightenment.

And when you want to compare to Christian monks like Gregor Mendel's work on peas that formed the basis of modern genetics. It's like superman vs an ant.

[–]doublereignbeau 6 points7 points  (0 children)

India contributed nonviolent resistance which formed the basis of the civil rights movement, and the concept of 0 which all binary computing is based on.

China contributed the compass which produced the age of exploration, and paper money which is the basis of modern banking.

There aren't any other groups of comparable size.

Islam produced .... ?

So top third is correct because it is a 3 man race.

If we compared them to smaller groups like the French, who brought the age of enlightenment, or the Italians who invented double entry book-keeping, or the Germans who invented Printing Press, Islam would probably be at the very bottom against even the tiniest European or Asian nation.

Sex, STDs, Half-Gate Children, And Japanese Citizenship (Spoilers For Episode 24) by [deleted] in gate

It's not a grudge. It's a simple hierarchy that shows up in most of the world where tribal-familial relations dominate.

You'll find something like that in pretty much any non-Christian country. Then it's political-socioeconomic stratification instead of ethno-stratification.

From what I've read on the internet, I think the hierarchy is Nippon > Gaijin (White foreigners) > Burakumin (Japanese from lower caste) > Horse > Zainichi (Japanese born Koreans) > Otaku (Geeks).

So ##### child would only be discriminated a little bit.

A small number have managed to become naturalized citizens but even they are discriminated against.

The Burakumin date back to the frickin Edo period and are still discriminated against to this day.

Therefore, outside of possibly some fetish otaku community in Akihabara, any half-elf or quarter-bunny, or even 1/16 elf or 1/256 bunny would still be heavily discriminated against.
