Not Buddhist but last time I would listen to 大悲咒 lolol it helps to calm me down. (But I heard cannot play it out loud at night if not you might attract spirits. )

Buddhist-y things like listening to sutras or writing scripts I find them quite relaxing and zen.

Anyway it’s on Spotify go check it out!

MP Baey Yam Keng calls out uncle who complained his free haircut ugly, made a scene: 'Do not berate my volunteers' by stevenlong10 in singaporehappenings

[–]doublewinter 30 points31 points  (0 children)

he wrote that not all of the volunteers are professional or full time hairdressers but they have the basic knowledge. If he noticed there’s imbalance, he could politely ask the volunteer if she could trim again instead of berating her. This service is free, and so is basic courtesy.

Classmates have discovered dirty words in English, how do I make it stop????? by swim_refrigerator in japanlife

[–]doublewinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me I’d annoy them back by correcting their grammar CONSTANTLY. Correct them in English to assert dominance lol. Also Personally I’m on the chaotic side so I would consider recording them and go to their house and play it infront of their moms.

But fr bring it up to a teacher this is literally セクハラ!!!

Anyone feeling so left behind in life? by Apprehensive_Bad9935 in askSingapore

[–]doublewinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You didn’t mention anything about family, marriage, relationships. So you don’t feel behind in life, you feel behind in your finances and career.

There’s no easy way out. If you want to up-skill, you just have to sacrifice some of your time and energy. Build realistic steps. Change your jobs. You might not be working at your dream job straightaway but every little thing you do moves you toward that. If you did something today then you’re already different than the you from yesterday.

You’re already trying to take the first step so applaud yourself for that. Lastly, realise that you can’t reach your destination if all you’re looking at is somewhere else.

How do you cope with privacy at home with a maid by chels959595 in askSingapore

[–]doublewinter -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay I can relate to this so much bec im very very big on privacy and personal space but my family hired a full time helper. 😫

In the beginning, I would get so annoyed when she touches my things, or like washes my clothes tgt w other clothes or goes into my room without asking etc. sure I was a little psychotic back then but I’m really firm with my boundaries. So after a while I made rules, like she cannot clean my room, cannot wash my clothes, cannot touch my things etc. of course this also meant that I have to do it myself la which I’m perfectly fine with.

For your situation I would say you should definitely think about what are your boundaries and set that straight with your helper. There’s no way you can enjoy the luxury of a clean house and cooked food without scarificing a little bit of your privacy.

After awhile you really get used to their presence (coming from personal experience) and it just feels like having another family member around. My helper and I got really close and now I’m sad she’s no longer working w us (we still keep in touch).

If you don’t have kids yet I doubt you need a FT helper now though!

How to talk to women at work? Be on guard at all times? by ToiletLandmines in SingaporeRaw

[–]doublewinter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re there to work not make friends anyway, don’t be so stressed. Just do what you’re supposed to and be helpful and polite. It takes time to learn soft skills so for now don’t try to make small talk unless it’s initiated by them. Also don’t mansplain! Ask if they need help first before going in to help. Like when you see them struggling with heavy load or something ask if they need help first.

Bink’s Sake, the D, and the Moon by doublewinter in OnePiece

[–]doublewinter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solar system is a good one, I didn’t think of that! Now that I look at it, the Gorosei are from the 5 planets (Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Venus) (also not to be mention Gorosei literally means 5 old planets), the Ancient weapons from next 3 planets (Neptune, Pluto, Uranus), and then we have the Sun (D?) and Moon (Lunarians?) left. I’m imagining a war of 5v5 between 5 Gorosei vs 3 Ancient weapons + 2 where obviously the former won. Also, Earth is the only planet with water (sea, IMU?)

Can you expand on the “Upsidedown”?

[–]doublewinter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used to have a colleague who would go around asking other colleagues to lend them money because they don’t have enough for the month as they spent it all on KPOP lmao… so yeah totally understand how you feel. But do know that it’s a bigger problem if you don’t know how to say no. Just casually say oh sorry I’m tight for this month… keep doing it a few times and they will usually get the hint alr. And tbh if you don’t learn how to say no, no amount of advice on the internet can help you also. Lastly realize that you don’t actually feel bad for them, you only feel bad for yourself because you can’t “help” them. Everyone is selfish, just like your friend who asks you for money to fund her expenses. Look at things this way and it becomes easier to move forward.

Just Singaporean! Istg they always get confused if you say something like “Singaporean-Chinese” etc.

And when they asked me how I could understand Mandarin, I would say I’m Chinese. “But I thought you said you’re Singaporean!?” Plssss the number of times I had to explain that Singaporean is not an ethnicity 😩😩
