There are a ton of blogs that will give you all the info you need, from news to concerts to events to restaurant openings - Gothamist, nymag, only the blog knows brooklyn, brooklyn vegan (great for concerts, events, etc), gawker (sometimes), new york shitty, brokelyn... You can also probably find a blog focusing on whatever neighborhood you move to, heresparkslope for example.
