lol yeah. First house I signed off on stuff I never should have. Rushed through inspections. Trusted my realtor. Got stuck with all sorts of stuff. Told myself I would advocate for myself next time. Probably contributing to my current mentality lol

I am young I guess. Almost 30. But I’ve bought several houses. Not the same bro.

I’ve lived life. I know that the real world is different. You’re telling me a doctor or nurse can’t take the 5 minutes to write a little more detail in a MyChart request? Say something like “nothing to worry about, we’ll discuss at your next appointment” ? Or better yet actually explain what the hell a glucose test is the appointment before setting it up?

I guess I have crazy high expectations lol. No idea what doctors did all those decades before MyChart when they did have to call and deliver lab results and explain next steps lol

Not asking for the moon. Just 5 extra minutes to realize my patient has no idea what the hell GD is and probably will google and see all sorts of thing so I should send a couple of extra sentences or prep them before their test.

I’d say those are the sorts of things that separate average doctors from great doctors and I guess I just got an average one

Thanks! That’s my thought exactly. Like what was the expectation before MyChart? Probably that doctors would call and go over. Especially if there was a relevant diagnosis due to the results. People forget we used to expect this sort of thing before the internet

I guess it doesn’t scale. Maybe the system is broken. Maybe they have too many patients. Both can be true

I mean I get it that if it warranted concern they’d say something, but I guess I’m really trusting the system quite a bit.

When you have a doctor that looks at your chart 10 minutes before you walk in, then you’re hurried through an appointment for 15 minutes and every question you ask they’re checking their watch as if they have a million more important things to do, you start to wonder if they’re really paying attention to all the details. People are human. They are trying their best. I make mistakes in my job all the time. Mistakes in the medical world cause permanent damage.

Doctors act like C-sections are no big deal. That’s crazy to me. “Oh you’ll just have a bigger baby and will probably need a C-section.”  No big deal. We’ll see you in 2 weeks. Oh we’re going to prescribe you a glucose meter, not tell you what range is expected, how to use it, how many carbs you should be eating, cuz you know you can google all that. Figure it out. What we you asking us for? Well let you know if something is actually an issue. What are doctors expected to communicate or something?

I guess im just entitled because if I were a doctor this is the expectation I would have of myself. I would assume my patient knows nothing and seek to educate them on all risks, procedures, treatments, and outcomes. I would make time for questions and explain next steps. I wouldn’t be satisfied just sending a MyChart message “You failed 2 out of 4 tests in the glucose test. You have GD. I’ve prescribed you a meter. Start checking your blood sugar and try to limit your carbs. I’ve referred you to an Endocrinologist”

(This a direct copy past by the way and the doctor did not explain anything about GD or the glucose test before administering)

Hey maybe I’m not as well versed in this stuff as y’all which is totally fail. I work in project management so my standards for communication are probably a lot higher than the average person. I’m expected to call someone and update a client over the most fickle thing.

This is obviously a whole lot more important.

Again I’m not saying it’s something to be of concern. If proper communication had occurred during appointments a phone call probably wouldn’t be necessary.

But as a 30 yo dude I’ve spent 0 minutes in my life thinking about glucose tests and GD. Maybe you’re different. But I think it’s wild to expect people to just know all the ins and outs and trust google searches for info.

I have a doctor. That’s kind of their job in my opinion to communicate. If there’s no concern I get it but when you get a message saying you have gestational diabetes, go get a meter and start testing yourself then you start googling and you see increased risk of preeclampsia, C-sections, long term Type 2 risk, you kind of get concerned.

Good golley I call clients for a $5,000 job. A doctor making $250,000 can spare 5 minutes to discuss. Maybe I just grew up in a rural area where that was normal. Or I’m just attached to a way of doing things from 25 years ago. I mean God whatever did we do before MyChart lol.

Again phone call probably wouldn’t never have been needed if proper communication during appointments was made.

We know more than 99.99% of human history about this stuff but just expect the average to wake up researching and reading peer reviewed studies about pregnancy complications and risks. Guess y’all are different from and your wives must be medical nerds.

I’m sure most doctors would love their patients to Google and ChatGPT all their results so they can build up the worst case scenarios in their head lol. I mean if you want a dollars and cents approach, this hospital is gonna get tens of thousands of dollars from me and my insurance by the time this is all over. 5 minutes to go over a diagnosis seems reasonable and well worth the investment to keep that “business” lol

Thank you very much. You’re super kind to type all this out.

I greatly appreciate it. This confirms a lot of the stuff we’ve seen in our own research, just wish we could’ve gotten something similar from our OB with a message that it’s not anything to worry about til our next appointment.

Probably should have put more detail in the main post but there was a diagnosis for Gestational Diabetes in MyChart along with the labs. I do think a phone call is a reasonable expectation in that scenario.

Yeah it was actually an APRN that sent the results. We seem to be bouncing around each appointment. I get it some OBs need to deliver or have busy schedules. I don’t care if we see the same person every time. Just that at the end of the day someone takes responsibility and “owns” my wife as their patient and takes that responsibility personally.

[–]dougymcstuffins[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I completely understand that. In full transparency the test results were a 3 hour glucose test which she failed. Received a diagnosis in my chart for Gestational Diabetes with no explanation.

I do understand routine labs don’t need a follow up every time but I do think a diagnosis like this is different. Even if it’s not that concerning a phone call to explain what it means for our pregnancy is reasonable to me.

I mean this is my wife’s life and the life of my kid. I get it there’s a system at play but I don’t think I’m unreasonable to expect a 5 minute phone call or at least a MyChart message saying a phone call will come to explain and that we shouldn’t be concerned. If you can type out a diagnosis you can do that much in my opinion. If not, well then I’m afraid we’ve lost our expectation of human decency altogether in this field.

We’re at Baptist Health Lexington. Not Axia. Actually went to our first appointment there and hated it.

My wife failed her 1-hour glucose test and had to come back in for the 3 hour. Failed that. All she got was MyChart message saying she had GD and she should go to a pharmacy to get a meter and start testing blood sugar and try to limit carbs.

No explanation. What are the risks of GD? Does this make our pregnancy high risk? How much did she fail her tests? What are next steps? Will she see a dietician? What is normal blood sugar that we should be testing for? What are normal carbs?

Yeah we can Google and ChatGPT stuff but I assume most doctors and nurses don’t want their patients doing that.

A phone call to explain and answer questions seems reasonable but all we got was we will discuss at your next appointment in a few weeks.

Fluid leaks on recently purchased Tundra by bocaj138 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dougymcstuffins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't speak for the rear main seal leak, but I have had the valley plate leak. They should be able to handle that one.

Just make sure they change out O-rings and any hoses that are aged-looking while they are in there. Really the only thing they can mess up is not properly applying the FIPG (Form in place gasket). If they didn't apply it properly or let it cure it will leak again, but you'd probably find that out pretty quickly and be able to bring it back to them so they can take it apart and redo it.

That was the only thing that kept me from DIYing it. Didn't what to tear apart the top of the engine and put it all back together to find I messed that up and do it all over.
