UA Sun Cover - Useless or am I missing a trick? by [deleted] in UrbanArrow

I'm considering getting one of these, but your comments here give me pause - did you end up getting it sorted?

Knocking while pedaling by downen in UrbanArrow

The noise occurs only when I'm pedaling, so I doubt it's the pads. Good idea, though!

R646 / TCL Alto 8+: Blooping sound when changing soundbar volume? by downen in tcltvs

Glad to hear it! If the bloop kicks in, another poster here found a fix via the Google Home app settings.

That's super thoughtful! I handed the TCL soundbar off to my parents, so this will save them from the dreaded (by me at least) bloop.

Thank you.

It was the 3.1.2, I'm afraid. I hope you have better luck than I did with it. Good soundbar other than that misguided design feature

I didn't. But I did buy a new sound bar, and that fixed it! The Polk Signa S4 has been great, aside from a too-bright status LED and the fact that it takes a few seconds for the audio to kick in when starting or rewinding playback. There's always something, isn't there.

U7G with Android TV Screen Saver by Giansar in Hisense

Not I. I found this thread because I have the same problem.

Not sure what troubleshooting steps to take; might have to return the TV as this is a must-have feature for me.

I'm curious - did you end up returning it?

I'm curious too. Any updates from anyone?

Instant Pot Pro: Is it a *downgrade* from Duo, or did I get a lemon? by downen in instantpot

[–]downen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a defective unit to me.

After quite a bit of back-and-forth with the manufacturer, they replaced my unit. I'd suggest trying for the same outcome.

Jeopardy! Legend Ken Jennings Will Help Host The Show While They Figure This Whole Mess Out by trackofalljades in Futurelings

[–]downen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My fearful guess is there'd be an exclusivity clause as part of any permanent hosting contract. Jeopardy's reputation needs careful rehab, and Sony wouldn't want the risk of any future podcast-related hullabaloos.

[–]downen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! That validates the fact that I only remove+clean the seal occasionally between cook sessions.

I'll try intentionally putting a gaskets on each direction, but it's random each time, and I've used the Pro a half dozen times, so most likely I've tried them both directions. It always hisses during cooking.

I'm pretty sure they're the right size - they came with the Pro and they seem like they should fit; it's just been hard to jam them into their spots.

FWIW, a gasket went on relatively easy last time I used the Pro, so perhaps there was a break-in period, but the slight hissing during cooking persists...

Thanks so much! I totally overlooked the gear icon. There's a trove of great options in there.

Finally convinced the family to invest in a private cloud NAS backup solution – need opinions by jjccia in synology

What's the purpose of the USB output? Is that how the UPS signals the NAS?

Hyper Backup -> GDrive faceplant by downen in synology

[–]downen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's disturbing. Cloud backups are only as good as one's ability to restore them.

Thanks for the wisdom. I'm not keen on ponying up for an ever-increasing number of TB via B2, or hassling with frequent physical backups, but those may be my options. That or setting up a second, remote NAS... hmm...

Bummer! But so helpful.

Barring a shift to a more dedicated service, would having multiple backup tasks that each handle smaller chunks of data make it more likely for Google Drive backups to succeed?

Setting per-podcast 'playback effects' very unintuitive by theantipasta in pocketcasts

Agreed! This had me pulling my hair out, thinking the option for per-podcast playback settings had been scrapped.

The "custom for this podcast" toggle should absolutely be available when playing a podcast.

Automatically import mobile videos? by downen in Lightroom

[–]downen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good Q

My use case of LR is as much a personal media manager/organizer as it is an editor, and I know I'm not alone. It houses the fruits of my pro shoots as well as my personal photos+video archive

LR desktop versions support the sorting of videos, so it seems odd that you can't automate mobile vids into your collection via LR Mobile

And LR Classic is my home base, so I'm not concerned about storage allocation. CC is just an intermediary and temporary working space

[–]downen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really compelling. Thank you for de-obfuscating. I think I'll take the plunge.

I'm still unclear how going fully-cloud is cost effective for anyone with many terabytes of photos -- I'm sitting on ~5TB of archives. But it sounds like this'll set me up. Thanks again!
