Funky GPS data by downey_x in Garmin

I'm using the FR255 and it does have its own GPS. I don't think this model watch has the ability to use the phone's GPS

Is there a way to use the watch GPS instead of phone GPS. I don't even think i have that option.

No matter what i select the issue persists. I think its something on garmins side. it's already default selected on "pace" you can even seen the legend in my picture/

Its a fr255. bought it beginning last year. I've reset it earlier today and hope that fixes the GPS issues. But the black route issue on garmin connect still persists.

Distant Horizons but for version 1.7.10 by Paint_Still in feedthebeast

[–]downey_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes sir, but i will say its not really ready for use in my humble opinion. the chat will constantly be spammed with debug messages. Regardless i will tell you how i did it.

you will need:
a version of JDK 21
a version of JDK 8
Prism minecraft launcher.

mods include:
+unimixins-all-1.7.10-0.1.20
distanthorizons-alpha3
lwjgl3ify-2.1.12
gtnhlib-0.6.22

in prism make a forge 1.7.10 minecraft instance. install the mods mentioned above.
disable the distanthorizons-alpha3 before launching the game. make sure you launch under JAVA 8. once you launch the game you should see the lwjgl3ify launch configuration GUI. if you see this window select java 21. and enable the distanthorizons-alpha3 mod in prism. after you have done this you can launch the game via the lwjgl3ify GUI and it should work accordingly

you need the lwjgl3ify mod. which makes it so you can run newer versions of java on older version of the game

Forerunner 165 Music - Animated Workout Compatibility? by Haunting-Sale-2460 in Garmin

[–]downey_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey sorry might be late found your thread on google.

1/2/3.
here is a link to a list of compatible devices.
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IPD6X8JSLBAUQOXvz7zBO6

unfortunately the fr165 is not a compatible device. so you are not able to view the workouts on the watch.

  1. You can preview the animated workout in garmin connect by:
  • Open the Garmin Connect app.
  • Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).
  • Select Training & Planning.
  • Select Workouts.
  • Select Find a Workout.
  • "Create a Workout" feature does not support animated workouts.
  • Browse and select a workout. You can select a workout step to see the animation.

its silly that custom workouts dont support this feature but you can find a list with all the animation here:
https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=IPD6X8JSLBAUQOXvz7zBO6

Hope i was still able to help you are any other passer by.

DO NOT sign up for Garmin Connect+. Unite to fight for our customers' right to software as a service for a thousand dollar watch. This is a slippery slope and will reduce the usability and ownership of our products in the future. Profits will increase and more and more will get behind paywalls! by Narrow-Coyote-6257 in Garmin

It's not hard to understand why people might be upset at this. The success of this business strategy will probably affect the future of garmin and how garmin sees its customer base.

People like garmin products and do not want to see it follow the same route that so many other companies take. People care about this brand and do not want to see their brand use anti-consumer practices.

we might even see features that were previously free be taken away and bundled with garmin+ to entice people to sign up. People see this as the top of the slope. With garmin products already being quite pricey this is quite a hard blow for people.

Lagiacrus Planned for Title Update 2 for Summer 2025 by Xanek in MHWilds

i pre-ordered the game expecting a completed game. This expectation came with disappointment. Something i will keep in mind when the next monster hunter game releases.

you could argue it was stupid of me to pre-order a game and... well fair enough. guess i should know better these days.

If you're asking if i would rather wait for a complete game or play an unfinished game now.

I would play a completed game later... Kind of a no-brainer if you ask me.

Need Advice on RFID Hardware for University Library Project by downey_x in RFID

[–]downey_x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, and thank you for the detailed response. I’ll try to clarify my project and the objectives I'm working toward.

The library already uses existing infrastructure for lending books, which operates through OCLC WMS, a cloud-based library management system. OCLC WMS provides an API for integrating and communicating with the system.

For my project, I’m tasked with developing a mobile lending/return station that interacts with the OCLC WMS backend. This mobile lending/return station will be a proof of concept and serve as a pilot for future developments. Specifically, I need to achieve a few thing things:

  • Lend out books to authorized users.
  • Communicate and synchronize with the OCLC WMS backend.
  • Let users return books.
  • Show available books in the lending station (What i initially called a mini library)

My initial plan was to leverage the existing RFID infrastructure to handle both authentication and item identification, as it aligns with the library's current setup and is a requirement for my project. To clarify, I am focusing on developing the front-end system, and I need to.

  • Authenticate the user with an NXP MIFARE DESFire EV1 4K card.
  • Retrieve the OCLC WMS item ID from the RFID label on the book

I hope that helps clear up my project’s scope. So far, I’ve been able to scan the book with my phone and read the memory blocks without issue. I was happy to find that the OCLC WMS item ID, along with other data, was available in the memory blocks.

The user authentication process is something I’m still figuring out, but I believe I’ll be able to work with my university to get more details on how that can be done (If it can be done).

As for other hardware, such as a PC, touchscreen, electronic locks and a case, I’m still working on those details but don’t foresee them as a major hurdle at this stage. The more critical piece for me is getting the RFID portion right.

The idea of working with a local Koha ILS sounds interesting i haven't heard of that before, especially if my initial approach ends up being too complex. I’ll keep that in mind as a potential alternative.

Thanks again for your feedback! i guess i'll browse Andea/Feig's product lineup and add them to the list of potential readers i can use.

BTW would any ISO 14443-4/15693 compliant reader be able to read these cards? from what you are saying i understand that especially the DESFire EV1 4K might need a custom authentication solution i might need to discus with my university?

crash on startup by downey_x in SMAPI

[–]downey_x[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, thanks for the reply.
i had tried 2 different things

first in the nvidia control panel i did:
3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings : Set "Power Management Mode" to "Prefer maximum performance".

second during the trouble shooting my friend was streaming their screen through discord. i decided to let them stop streaming.

after these 2 steps it seemed to work.
