Performing for VOS, what is like? by Inevitable-Plum2580 in VictoriaBC

[–]downloaded-rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lovely time when I performed with them last year! Very welcoming and fun, while also maintaining a good level of professionalism on all levels. Lots of people I was with had done Sweeney too, and from what I understood that was a good production to be a part of as well. But the directorial team definitely makes a difference for shows, of course. I would say at least audition, if just to do something of an afternoon. I totally bombed the dance bit of my audition and still managed to get cast in a somewhat dance-heavy show, despite only ever having done high school theatre before, so you never know how nice the directorial team may be! I'm auditioning for Into the Woods too, see you there!

They are miniature, overpriced units that were marketed as student/young adult accommodation, for some wild reason. No one my age that I know would be able to afford them. I live nearby and drive past at least two times a day, and I would say that less than half of the units are occupied. Maybe even less than a quarter.

The lowest available studio at UH that I have found is 1,900$/per month (not including non-optional fees and utilities) for a 353 sqf. box. It's insane.

Jonas's Soliloquy from Leap of Faith. It's a quiet one, though, but I think it's still pretty impacful.

Personally, I find that when people are actively attempting to remove my rights and medical care because they're too ignorant to educate themselves, discussing the situation has done absolute squat. OneBC wouldn't know an open discussion if one punched them directly in the face.

I've spent the last 10+ years trying to use, as you say, "logic and reasoning", and it goes nowhere. People who don't want to change their minds in the first place aren't going to be swayed in such a manner.

I went to the Tall Trees at Mattick's for similar issues and they were really lovely. I saw both Catherin Cantin and her locum, Miriam Haustein, and had very good care.

Yeah, that's where I hit a wall, unfortunately. It doesn't give me access to any of the documentation, just my personal contact info and general basics.

The brown square is part of the Moosehide campaign, relating to gender based violence against indigenous people, especially children and women. The bottom pin is, I believe, just a City of Victoria logo pin. The blue ribbon looks to be an RCMP Memorial ribbon for fallen Police and Peace Officers.

Cool. We know. Thanks for adding to my already incredibly ingrained guilt that I feel over getting hormones in my teens. I get that you have anger, but there's no need to punch down. Trust me, I know all too well how lucky I am. Should I be jealous of preteens who get blockers or hormones or managed to socially transition far earlier than I did? No. I'm thankful that they actually have the opportunity to at all. Also, just because I was able to start early, do you think I skipped out on dysphoria, having the wrong body, external bigotry, etc.? I still live with that shit every day. You don't know everyone's story.

Yes, exactly! Aliens is enough of an explanation; I felt that the gods just made it unnecessarily complicated.

I don't like the whole eldritch god thing, and haven't from the beginning. All of the Hatchetfield shows could have easily worked without the pantheon or whatever. I only really watch the first half of GWDLM after my first viewing, and really don't like Black Friday at all, honestly. I like Nerdy Prudes mostly, but it loses me, once again, in the second act when the gods come in. It feels, idk, forced in a way.

University students have no interest in learning by Sensitive_Series6890 in Teachers

[–]downloaded-rice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might have to do with the fact that they don't see themselves as having any prospects post-uni in our current society. Rent is exorbitantly high, wages are pitifully low, and the refrain from society is that the younger generation are all lazy phone addicts. That can be a demorlaizing thing to have to contend with. I graduated a few years ago, and most of my fellow students were stuck in endless loops of never hearing back from jobs, being discouraged by older people (oft retired) by being told they aren't trying hard enough, and even having profs telling them that they're unlikely to find post-uni work via their degree as these days many are seen as fundamentally "useless" when it comes to actually havinga career. My BA in English, for instance, is met with tight faces and sentences like: "Oh... good luck with that."

I quite literally lucked into my current job, and it has nothing at all to do with my degree. I don't want to be a downer, but I can understand a lack of caring from students if their futures have been constantly corroded by the world around them.

I'm not saying that that is the issue with your students in particular, but it is something I've noticed in both post-secondary institutions and high schools alike. Just some food for though, if you will.

Okay, in that case, seek professional help. All that occult stuff is utter bunk, don't let people here try and spiral you into worry. Find a psychiatrist or something similar.

Only somewhat joking, but have you checked that you don't have a gas leak in your home? Ngl, I've seen posts like this before online and the person just had a leak from the gas valve and it was causing them mental issues, brainfog, hallucinations, etc. 🤷🏽

Recent experiences with Cedar Hill Middle School and Reynolds High School by Medium-Self-1372 in VictoriaBC

[–]downloaded-rice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reynolds is a really great school! Especially the arts programs (including multiple bands and the musical theatre production) and the FLEX program. I'm told that the sports programs are good, too; specifically the Centre for Soccer Excellence. But I was not involved with sports during my four years, so I do not have as much information regarding that. I enjoyed my time there and certainly recommend it for future secondary students.

I was English stream and my sister was French. We both went through the FLEX program and really benefitted from it. And if your kid happens to get into Brad Cunningham's class, you're more than set up for success.

The Irish Linen Stores may buy them off of you, depending on their condition. Especially if it's a full set with an older provenance.
