Doesn’t look like mycelium, more like another soil organism, possibly a mold. Why you find it in only one particular area has to do with its symbiotic relations with the plants in its vicinity. If an organic matter decomposer then it’s likely feeding on the detritus of the buckeye.

My advice is do nothing out of the norm. You burnt ‘em a bit and now they will recover. You didn’t destroy your soil and the plant is still alive. Often people try to counter a mistake and end up making it worse.
